Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is yes, seven days of fab new collections and new hair, makeup, and nail ideas, but it’s also seven days of cab and subway funk, blisters, pimples, fashion flu, and fatigue. But I do it because I LOVE clothes—it can be clothes I can’t afford, clothes that don’t even fit me, I just want to see it and all the beauty that goes with it. OMG and the hair, makeup, nails, and STREET STYLE!!! I mean, what’s there not to love about NYFW?
What made this season even better though is I partnered up with my blogging buds LoveBrownSugar, LexiwiththeCurls, and Jessica from Glamazons Blog so collectively we could all be the eyes and ears to give you all an insider’s look at what goes on at the tents without you ever having to leave your smart phones. Plus it’s cool because you get four different perspectives of the week—each of us has a different style and we all didn’t go to the same shows and events so it’s like four times the Fashion Week fun ;)
Clover Canyon and Rachel Roy dresses Jess picked out via Rent the Runway
My NYFW accessories from Dannijo, House of Harlow 1960, Erickson Beamon, Gemma Redux and Kenneth Jay Lane via Rent the Runway
Our crawl was sponsored by Rent the Runway, EDEN BodyWorks, SheaMoisture, and Smirnoff Ice who each provided us with essentials needed to get through the week and also allowed us to let you all in the fun with really fab product giveaways (in fact, you can still enter my EDEN BodyWorks giveaway here and our Smirnoff Ice giveaway here)
So my first stop was the hair salon so my stylist Gabrielle Corney (she’s at Styles Salon at 5 W 46th st) could give me a NYFW hair moment. I’m currently testing out new hair extension brand Limelight Extensions (founded by 23-year old Miranda Jade Plater who created an opportunity to start a business despite the economic downturn felt in her hometown of Detroit) so Gabi gave me a side part and big loose curls or what I called “Here she is, Miss America” hair when I posted on Instagram…lol.
Then New York Fashion Week began!
Jessica was off to the Target Style and Glam Media Fashion Show along with Christina and Ty from Gorgeous in Grey looking too cute.
For me it was a slow day namely because I missed Marissa Webb :/ but then the three of us met up at the 3.1 Phillip Lim for Target private shopping event and like I mentioned in my post, it was HECTIC! But we spotted the designer himself along with fashion faves Solange and Jessica Alba.
You can see what I got here.
Jess and Christina got some really cute items! Jess got this leopard print blazer that I now need to order once the collection hits online on Sunday and Christina scored this one-of-a-kind bag (they had to get a manager to figure out how to ring it up since it wasn’t supposed to be on the floor at the event). They shared more of their cute finds on their blogs so make sure you head over to Glamazons Blog and LoveBrownSugar to see what else they got.
Here’s a look at the leopard print men’s sweatshirt I bought from the collection paired with JustFab cargo jeans and Zara shoes.
Then we were each off to cover shows which was cool because we all didn’t go to the same shows but it was like we did ;)
Then Saturday Lexi came into town from Atlanta and our quad was complete! We hit a few NYFW lounges and had dinner in Harlem at Bier International.
More shows on Sunday! I missed Tracy Reese because the line was so long to get in and I had a priority standing ticket so I along with Jess and Gabi Fresh decided we’d see better pics online than from peeking through our standing “seats” so we hopped out and snapped some pics then headed over to the Reward Style party at the Empire Hotel.
After that Lexi, Jess, and I headed over to Morimoto for dinner with Glam Media. The food was SO good!
So I was planning on going as my usual super casual self (quick back story—I worked in finance for 10 years so I always wore suits, dresses, and skirts while I would daydream about working in fashion at a job where I could wear jeans to work so when I left that world in 2010 to blog full time and start my freelance writing career, I practically got rid of anything that resembled a dress or a suit…lol) but it was super hot and all my friends were changing for dinner so I got peer pressured into wanting to change, too. So I bought this $40 Cynthia Rowley dress from Century 21 right up the block from Lincoln Center and paired it with the Zara shoes I bought earlier that same day…lol.
Then more shows (lol) and some celebrity sightings at NYFW!
Jessica with Paris Hilton
Jess and Christina got to see Janelle Monae perform at Rebecca Minkoff
Christina and BabyBrownSugar in an Issa London dress via Rent the Runway
Christina with Amber Riley
Jess spotted Ciara
Jess spotted Kerry Washington who was announced as a celebrity guest judge at the Project Runway finale show
Then Lexi, Christina, and I headed to the Cosmo for Latinas cocktail party to celebrate their fall issue. I wrote an article in the issue (see here). We ran into Adrienne Bailon who is super cute and sweet in person.
More shows again and then Lexi went back to Atlanta. I had a pretty easy Tuesday and Wednesday since I missed a few shows (so mad I missed Malandrino because Mary J. Blige, Eve, and Taraji P. Henson were there) while Christina and Jess attended some amazing shows. You can see my show coverage here and more NYFW on Glamazons Blog, LoveBrownSugar, and Lexi with the Curls.
Loved hanging with my girls—it made NYFW so much easier. If you want to see more pics, make sure you check out hashtag #NYFWCRAWL on both Twitter and Instagram. You can also see more pics on our Facebook pages: The Style and Beauty Doctor, LoveBrownSugar, The Glamazons, and LexiwiththeCurls.
Until next time!
I saw Kerry’s dress somewhere else and seeing it was one of the rare times I envied a woman for having a small chest. B/c I was loving that look and if I had anything with that neckline it would be obscene.
