So…I Went to Supercuts

I don’t typically spend time looking at the back of my head, so I had no clue I still had some relaxed ends clinging to my lil fro until a friend told me (yet you can totally see them in the pic above…lol). Supercuts sent me a gift card a few weeks ago so I figured let me give them a shot at trimming the ends and making my hair look neater.

I sauntered down to the Forest Hills location in Queens yesterday and explained what I needed. I didn’t want to cut too much length off the curly/kinky part because I want enough hair to braid because I plan on getting another weave.

Side note: I find this whole “I’m natural” thing very funny because I’m making all these hair decisions on a whim whereas before it would take me forEVER to make the smallest change like a trim *smh*…lol.

Anyway, my stylist (her name is Alicia and she’s super cool) got to work snipping away and after 15 minutes I was happy with what she did. I mean, it wasn’t a total transformation but my hair definitely looks neater. And yes, I was the only female customer there at the time…lol.

She did a good job, right? Last I blew out my hair it was about lower ear/mid-cheek length. I’d go back for another cut once my hair grows out again. Oh—and I didn’t go outside with a pink shirt and pink lips…lol. When I got back in the house I put on my “house clothes” and then remembered to take a picture of my hair…lol.

Have you ever been to Supercuts? What was your experience?

She did a great job!!! My last cut was with Devachan in NYC, the cut was great, but a definite budget buster. It’s hard to find a good reasonably priced stylist that can cut natural hair. Now you have me wondering should I go to Supercuts to get my next trim/cut. Thanks!

She did a job and was so sweet! My homey Carmen from LipstickFashionMascara.com just made an appointment at Devachan to get her hair cut. She has much more hair than me so I couldn’t justify getting a $70 haircut with only about ear length hair…lol.

My hair being short could have been a factor in how easy it was for her to do a good job with my hair so not sure how it will turn out on longer natural hair, but I did go with my hair freshly washed and detangled (not that my short hair can get tangled much…lol). Though I didn’t pay for it, my cut was just $18.

I think she did a good job too. I have thought about going to Supercuts to get a hair cut in the past but I was to scared. You have made me a little less apprehensive. :)

      Hey Dee!

      Thanks!

I think as long as you communicate what you want and make sure you and the stylist are both on the same page (this is with any salon) you should be fine. When in doubt bring in tons of pictures but since I wanted something very simple talking it out was enough…lol. But I sure do get what you mean about being apprehensive…lol. This being natural stuff certainly has me making decisions on a whim and being able to live with the results. I never would have done any of this before…lol. Or maybe I’m just getting old :x lol

LOL. Danielle, I have the same problem. Did you cut it yourself? I just cut mine about a week ago myself, so I have relaxed ends left in some places. I’m scared to have someone else cut it though, so I snip the relaxed ends I find every time it’s wet. Lol.

How long has it been since your last relaxer? I believe we started transitioning around the same time. I started June 2010. :)

      Hey!

Yep—I cut it myself at first…lol. I had my last relaxer last July so we sure did start transitioning around the same time :)

      Hey Taylor!

Thanks! I do rock it most days but I’m itching for a new ‘do already…lol. I already showed Gabrielle Corney (the stylist who does my weaves) some pics of hairdos I want to try next…lol.

How long have you been transitioning?

OMG i’m so glad I found this AND its in NYC. I just straightened my hair today (first time in 2 years) with the intention of getting about an inch trimmed off because my end are atrocious. I’m glad you had a good experience and I will be there first thing tomorrow!

Okay so yea I went in with my hair straightened (as straight as it could ever be…. a huge fro, just one pass with the iron), and she picked it out and pretty much shaped it up and i told her to take off all the bad ends she could find. A little hair history, my hair is VERY dense (lots and lots of it) and coily (not sure if it has a “curl pattern” or no, but Andre’s system gets nada from me). I told her that I wanted between 1/2 – an inch cut off, i think she took off less than that, maybe my ends weren’t as bad as I thought. All in all she was very nice, when she finished the back she showed it to me before continuing.

I don’t recall my stylist’s name, but there were two woman, one seemed to be Israeli/of Jewish descent with longer hair, and the other a Puerto Rican woman with shorter hair, is the one who did mine.

Nice—did you go to the location in Forest Hills as well? Do you like your new cut?
