So I’m 30. But ask my family and they would totally say I behave like a 12 year old at times. Hey, it keeps me grounded I guess.
Though I’m still a spring chicken knocking on 31’s door and like to think I’m a mature lady, there are some things I do question whether or not I’m too old to be doing. I mean, my niece is 17 and if we like the same things then that might mean I’m overgrown, right? So while I’m not out there wearing baby tees and pigtails, I made a list of questionable things that I like that may just be tipping the “girl, you are TOO old for that” iceberg…
*Navel piercing. When I was 22, I sauntered into a tattoo parlor to get my navel pierced. At the time I was a size 6 and just out of college with my first full time job. Years later, I still rock a stud in my navel (not the same one of course) mostly because I felt it made my tummy look smaller. But am I too old for this?
*Shopping at Clarie’s. Whenever I need fast, new earrings, I pop into Claire’s Accessories where I’m greeted by the 17 year old assistant manager and I tower over all the other tweeny customers. Though I *did* fit in just two years ago when I had braces, I’m kinda thinking I might be too old for Claire’s.
*Reading popular teen novel series. Funny because I used to think I wouldn’t be caught dead reading Twilight, but not only have I read all four books PLUS the Midnight Sun draft Stephenie Meyer wrote as the first book in Edward’s point-of-view, but I also cannot wait until Breaking Dawn Part 2 comes out and secretly wish Meyer will write a fifth book. *sigh*. I’ve also read The Hunger Games trilogy twice and will probably read it again in between movie releases.

Lol, I think we all have things we question like this! “@StyleNBeautyDoc: New blog post: Am I Too Old For This?: http://t.co/bisYnQwn”
Great post! I have this theory that people over 21 are too old to shop at Forever 21. At least for me, at 26. I pop in there sometimes for a last minute outfit, yet nothing ever fits or looks right on me in there! I also think I’m too old for bright pink nail polish, but I still rock it!

Thanks! Haha—I feel the same way but some of their Love21 stuff looks like it’s geared to the older set. I don’t buy clothes from there but I certainly love their accessories :)
You know, I’m feeling you on that idea as well. Plus I’m getting to the age where I just want to and pick up quality pieces. I will however continue to buy there accessories.
No you’re not! PS I kept my belly button ring in until I got preggers :).

Haha! I’m putting mine back in! ;)
You aren’t too old for much yet Danielle but the choice of pics above was perfect. Mariah Carey never shook her Long Island fashion sensibilities and now she is a case study in wearing everything that is wrong for her age and body.
Those sandals are the business though.

haha! This is good to know because I SURE feel overgrown when my 17 year old niece and I shop at the same stores or like the same stuff…lol. Mariah and her eternally 12 year old self…lol.
Nope you’re not too old. I have a belly button ring and was told to keep it in until I have kids. Have you seen Nicole Murphy? She’s over 40 rocking hers!
Author
You know what—that Nicole Murphy validation was ALL I needed! Now let me go get some Nicole abs… LOL
I don’t think you’re too old for the belly button ring or to shop at Claire’s…I will be 30 in September and I still have my belly button ring. I plan on keeping it until I get pregnant. And Claire’s is the bomb for cheap jewelry! I draw the line at shopping at Forever 21, I don’t want to rock the same stuff as my 17 yr old cousin.
Author
YES! I have a pass now…lol. I’m totally with you on Forever 21 clothing—the accessories are cute sometimes though :)
sometimes I shop at forever 21, but mostly for their accessories, and sometimes for their tops/blazers/cardigans if I want something different, and non plain. But the majority of my clothes I get from The Gap, H&M, and sometimes J. Crew because they’re more age appropriate for me( I’m 28)
I also read teen novels and I LOVE them! I started getting heavily into teen fiction when my niece wanted me to read the Harry Potter books with her (ditto for the Twilight series and The Hunger Games). We’ve been reading together ever since.

Awww! that’s so sweet, Michelle! Those teen fiction books are SO addicting!!! lol
First: not going to believe you are anywhere near 31 :) Second I get where you’re coming from. I ignore Claire’s now, but most of the compliments I get are from jewelry I got at Forever 21. Also, when it’s cheaper to test a trend at a store that my little cousin likes, I would rather do that then splurge on accessories or tops before I’m sure that I really like it :)

Haha—thanks, Delia!
Danielle, the heading is so appropriate for the picture. I hope Mariah reads this and takes note.

haha!!!
Danielle you are fine. Do you. I am 36 this month and have had my navel ring on stand by since I got pregnant…I will be reinserting it as soon as I can do so with out it screaming and laughing at me.
I also pop in rainbow, forever 21, H&M and the like for basics and trendy cheap items…Whatevs….

I’m TOTALLY putting mine back in! LOL @ it screaming and laughing!
I think what makes me question some of this stuff is that my niece likes a lot of the stuff I do which can make me scratch my head like “Wait a minute…” lol
I’ll be 21 soon. Does this mean I’m getting too old for Forever 21? :( Haha. Jk. I love Forever21’s accessories and for trying out new trends. I get obsessed with a trend and over it so quickly, so Forever21 is great for that. I also like them for cheap basics (plain t shirts/camis), as well as something that’s not “plain”, like another commenter said.
I don’t think you’re too old for any of these things you’ve mentioned, actually. :)
Author
Haha! They’re accessories ARE quit obsession-inducing, aren’t they? ;)
Thanks, my dear…you made my day…lol.
I’m about to turn 30 in October… I’ve still got my belly-button ring in. But I have been asking if I’m too old for it as well. Ugh, growing up is wack!
Author
LMAO! YES, it totally is wack, Jai!!!
