It’s funny how I’ve tried almost everything else from beauty brand Hourglass Cosmetics, but hadn’t yet tried the Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara. I mean, the thing has 4 1/2 stars on Sephora.com and celebs like Jessica Alba and Emily Blunt wore it to the Golden Globes. I HAD to try it.
So it arrived for me to try (c/o Hourglass) along with Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Edition, a gorgeous sheer rosy pink with slight gold shimmer.
What’s awesome about Film Noir is it uses an intense concentration of ProVitamin B5 to add a reflective, jet-black sheen for dramatic impact. The wand feels like it was designed to pick up the optimal amount of product out of the tube and its grooves are separated just enough to get to each lash without clumping. It made my lashes look longer and darker and gave them a fanned out look.
Here’s how it looks on me (I’m also wearing Hourglass Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Dark Brunette and Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Pencil in Perversion)
Here’s what my bare lashes (and bare brows that are calling out for an appointment from my brow threader…lol..I’m getting them done on Sunday when I get back to NYC—I’m so particular and barely let anyone touch them while I’ve been in Georgia) look like for comparison:
Remember when I reviewed another shade of Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick and marveled at how creamy they are? Same thing with Edition. OMG—they’re so creamy you kinda want to sneak and eat it…lol. Edition as I described above, is a sheer rosy pink with slight gold shimmer. The rich color you see in the lipstick isn’t exactly what you get on your lips (depending on the color of your lips, of course), but the color is still really pretty for an everyday look or if you’re wearing something really heavy on the eyes.
Here’s Edition on Emily Blunt at the Golden Globes:
Bottom line: If not Edition, you must try at least one Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick if you’re a lipstick lover. When it runs out you can buy a refill and pop it into the case as opposed to buying a whole new tube.
While I liked Film Noir Mascara, I’d love it if it were closer to $18 as opposed to $28.
Prices and where to buy:
Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Sephora, Sephora.com & Space NK
