You won’t be catching me with the right side of my head near the air conditioner this summer…lol. Yep, I shaved the side of my head. SO funny because I would NEVER have done this to my hair (well, I actually couldn’t since I worked in the financial services field and who’s buying mutual funds from someone with half their hair shaved off? lol) but since kicking relaxers (a chemical that takes curly/kinky hair and makes it permanently straight) to the curb in 2010, I’ve been a lot more daring with my hair. And in all that hair freedom I’ve had a TWA (teeny weeny afro), a medium-sized afro, a big curly weave, long straight weave, a short bob weave (yeah, I kinda really like weave and it will be my downfall…lol), and I expect to try out sooo many more. As the rappers and kids say, you only live once!
So why did I decide to shave the side of my hair seemingly out of nowhere? I wish I could say I was being brave and ballsy (which I was/am to an extent), but you know how they say “everything in moderation,” well, that definitely applies to me with weaves. My own hair would be just as awesome after I took the weave out as it was before for so many of the times I wore them, but it pretty much said “girl, BYE” and a pretty sizable piece of my hair broke off in the back. I was actually thinking of just doing another big chop but after I called my hairstylist (Gabrielle Corney) to tell her what happened and sent her pics of the damage, I started looking at cool, edgy haircuts. I figured I’d have to shave the side off in order for it to look good and for my hair to grow in properly (or as properly as it can when one side is muuuuuuuuch shorter than the other…lol) and just as I was looking at pics of my sisters in shaved sides, my hairstylist called me back and suggested I shave the sides and it would look cute. We were in sync! I figured it was a good sign and I oddly wasn’t nervous about it (because my stylist does great work) so off I went!
Ahhh, it’s clean OFF! I loved what Gabi did with it—she gave me a straight style and added in a little fullness with Indique Relaxed Straight Fishnet (a 10-piece clip-in set all in one unit that you can easily clip in and clip out). I’ll tell you more about the style process in more detail in another post of course. But I really like it—I’m not going to keep it, but I like it. As it grows out I’ll keep it shaped and may just clip the other side so it eventually grows in evenly.
But surprisingly soooo many people have been telling me they love it (what they say behind my back may be different…lol) and the person who seems to like it the most is the most shocking of all—-my 67 year old mom! I snuck up on her and she gasped and said “I LOVE IT!!!!” (My momma ain’t one to lie, she has dished out unsolicited feedback regarding her disdain of many of my prior looks…lol). My dad on the other hand—I may have to wait until it grows in…lol.
But overall I loved taking this risk and of course I’m excited about re-styling my wardrobe (you know—new hair, new fashion style!). You may see me with a wig or something in between just because I know I’ll get bored soon, but overall I’m content :D

Oh My Goodness, LOVE IT!!!!! It looks great on you and you better WERK IT!!!!! Ahh the freedom of no hair on one side, as for me the freedom of no hair on one side and all the back, last month after growing my hair out for about two years I said the heck with it and chopped it off into a shorter version of Megan Good and I haven’t looked back since, i have decided to keep it during the summer months down here in Florida cause it gets HOT!!!

Thanks, Farrah!!! Yes!!! I bet that shorter look on you looks hot!!!!
Love! I have been aching to shave one side of mine, but I keep thinking that it may just be pregnancy hormones messing with my head so I’m gonna wait until fall to see if I really want to do it. Lol Looks great on you though :)

Dani!! You look great though!! I love this look on you. I must say while this look is hella trendy, not every one can pull it off. Some heads or too small or too square but yours is perfect. <3
