Remember when I reviewed Hourglass No. 28 Primer? And how it was pretty much everything which I wasn’t expecting since it’s so hydrating and I have oily skin? Hourglass has now followed up with a similar format for the lips dubbed No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil.
I actually got to get a bit of a sneak peek of No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil during New York Fashion Week last February as it and other Hourglass products were used on the models backstage at La Perla. From the second I heard about it I couldn’t wait for it to debut and it’s finally here!
Official details:
As a follow up to No. 28 Primer Serum, this highly advanced lip treatment oil has both short- and long-term benefits for the lips. The combination of powerful actives, essential oils, plant oils, and vitamins works on contact to condition lips, relieve dryness and chapping, and shield against environmental elements. In addition, three advanced active ingredients strengthen the moisture barrier; boost skin smoothness; and elevate the appearance of lip texture, shape, and volume. No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil is dispensed via an opulent 24KT, anti-bacterial, gold-plated tip to create a soothing effect on the lips.
This product is enriched with 14 essential oils including Bois De Rose, Lavender, Geranium, Petitgrain, Lemon, Rosemary, Vanilla, Clove, Amyris, Orange, Ylang Ylang, Eucalyptus, Cedar, and Rose Geranium, as well as lipid-rich plant oils that include Hazelnut, Kukui Nut, Rose Hip, Borage, Olive, Green Tea, Cherry Pit, Sweet Almond, Jojoba, and Evening Primrose, and is fortified with vitamins A, B5, C, and E.
You can use it alone day or night or use it as a primer of sorts followed by your lip color (the brand suggests using it along with their Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick or Extreme Sheen High Shine Lip Gloss). I’ve been testing out the tube that Hourglass sent over for review and used it a number of ways: as a “primer”, after using a lip scrub, as a night treatment. It’s this whole luxurious experience and my lips definitely felt more supple after using it—I’d also be interested to see how it helps when my lips get really dry in the winter. As a primer it works best on lip colors with a similar texture as it (expectedly) changes the finish on matte lipsticks.
Bottom line: Do you *need* this? You’ll definitely be able to live and breathe without it but it is one of those beauty things where once you try it, you want to keep using it.
Price and where to buy: (see widget below)
I just purchased this last week. I am a lip balm addict and read good reviews on this product. I am having quite and issue lately with dry, cracked and peeling lips. I purchased this after seeing a few raving reviews but I was very hesitant because of the extremely high price. I have never in my entire life spent as much on any lip product, ever! But it did wonders for my lips in just 2 days. I use it as a night treament before bed.
