When I started this blog back in 2007 (we’ll be six years old next month!) it was all about using all the skills I learned from my Image Consulting curiculum at FIT and what I learned from being a makeup artist to help women (and the guys) figure out what works best on them when it comes to makeup, clothes, and hair. It’s so much fun for me to help you all with your wardrobe and beauty inquiries that this site was and is all about YOU.
But quite often you guys ask to see how I’m wearing something or how some of the makeup I review looks on my face (though I think I’ve done a great job with describing them) but if you saw what I typically look like when I work (I work from home) you’d really not want to see me…lol. Of course when I go out I put on makeup and look descent, but most times I’m rushing out the house to get to my appointments which leaves little time to get good lighting for photos and then I’m a Virgo so yeah…lol. Plus when I’m in a rush like I am about 95% of the time, I’m wearing the same makeup look just to save time.
But this weekend all the cards were aligned for me! I had an outfit shoot Sunday afternoon with my new photo intern (stay tuned for more!) and had my hair done the day before plus still had my makeup on from the shoot when I got back home. I was looking for inspiration on what I wanted to wear for my shoot for next week so I was browsing through Saks because their Friends and Family sale ended yesterday as well as my Pinterest to get inspiration. I came up with an outfit I wanted to wear and had the pieces for it in my closet so I tried it on and then decided it also needed vampy makeup so I changed my lip color, added blush, smoked the eyes slightly and then at the last second felt like I need a pop of green on my bottom waterline so I found my Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil in Covet. If I had a traditional 9 to 5, this would have been a perfect day to night transition because before I had on a really simple neutral makeup look and then went vampy in under 2 minutes with the add-ons.

Here’s a closer look at the Cargo Vintage Escape Eye Palette:
Quick review: I’m currently having a thing for eyeshadow palettes and love this one for providing so many great pigmented neutral shades with a good mix of matte and shimmer (the shimmer shades are similar to Urban Decay shadows—super velvety smooth with shimmer without being overly shimmery). It’s limited edition and for the quality and cool distressed leather packaging, I think it’s a steal at $39. Grab it at Ulta and Cargo’s website.
Now I’d love to do these more often but I haven’t figured out how use my SLR to get these shots—for some reason it makes my skin look really bad when I use it…lol. But even though the quality isn’t as good, I got better shots with my forward-facing iPhone camera. I’ll get it together soon hopefully…lol. Plus I’m not always going to get decent pictures or have the cards be so well aligned like they were for me yesterday. I’m trying!
I do have a fun beauty shoot I’ve been thinking of doing since forever that I finally put together so that’ll be fun. Stay tuned :)

Thanks! Awww—I wish they would bring it out again—it’s a great matte!
You look gorgeous, Danielle! Thank you for sharing.
I wanna try this lip (no…I AM gonna try this lip LOL), but I don’t have Prince Noir. I do have NARS Train Bleu, so I’ll try it with that! :-)
Author
Thanks!!! Yes, try it! I love a vampy lip (why do I have NARS Train Bleu too though? smh lol)
LOL!!! I know all about having similar shades of lipstick. No judgement coming from me, LOL!!!
Who are you looking at in that first picture? B/c that is a come hither look…you look like Idris Elba was standing behind whoever was holding that camera.
Author
LMAO—I was holding my forward facing iPhone camera so I was looking at myself…lol. I guess this is practice for when Idris Elba (or similarly statured dude…lol) is in front of me…lol.
I’m just going to tell you right now that if it is Columbus Short or Common, we will have issues if you give either of them that look. Or Chwetiel Ejiofor…
