The Best Man Holiday, the long-awaited next chapter to the film that ushered in a new era of comedy, hits theaters on Friday and yours truly was on the scene for the world premiere in Hollywood along with my Virgo love Taren Guy thanks to my friends and official movie hair sponsor, Motions Hair.
While I of course was not in the movie (though they totally could have given me a cameo, right? Helloooo, Universal) and I was attending as press, I still of course had to be camera ready. You know, for Instagram pics and the like…lol. I already had my look in mind within like an hour after Motions told me they’d be sending me out. I love a long sleeve dress but wanted to wear white—perfect choice for a holiday-themed movie and for giving the side eye to that old “no white after Labor Day” rule. So here’s what I wore:
Nha Khanh dress c/o Rent the Runway
Ben Amun clip-on earrings c/o Rent the Runway
Ciner necklace c/o Rent the Runway
BCBGMAXAZRIA gold envelope clutch
Badgley Mischka shoes
…all topped it off with like ten pairs of Spanx #snatched
For makeup I wanted a winged cat eye—but not just a winged cat eye—a WINGED cat eye with a sweep of gold on the eyes, a bold cheek, and shiny nude gloss complete with a fierce highlight/contour. Motions set us up with appointments at Blushington, the CUTEST makeup bar (think Drybar but makeup—in fact there’s a Drybar right next door, too) in West Hollywood where my makeup artist Yessica gave me a little beat. It’s always fun for me to have someone else do my makeup because well for one it’s one less thing I need to worry about when getting dressed for something important but also because they’ll have a different perspective of my face.
She used:
BECCA Matte Primer
Stila Stay All Day Foundation (shade 16, I think)
Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer to highlight and contour (I wasn’t paying attention but she likely used shade 12 to highlight and shade 16 to contour)
Stila blush
Stila Smudge Pot liner
Jouer gloss
Then of course we had to top it all off with my most important accessory, hair :) I wanted Old-Hollywood-meets-modern-NYC-girl 40s style waves and got exactly that. Motions Shine Enhancing Pomade and a touch of Motions Marula Natural Therapy Hair and Scalp Oil kept my edges in place while Motions Hold & Shine Spray kept my curls bouncing.
P.S. If you have natural hair like me and want to style it straight Motions Straight Finish Heat Styled System is perfect for this. Start with the Straight Finish Cleanser (contains shea butter and keratin to help temporarily loosen the curl pattern and prep it for heat styling) and then Straight Finish Leave-In Conditioner with Coconut Oil and Keratin before blow-drying (I use just a touch of the leave-in but if you have more hair use a teeny bit more). The Straight Finish Sealer with Almond Oil and Keratin keeps the hair smooth and protects from frizz and you can use it for days after your blow out, too.
I felt so glamorous! Typically press for red carpet events are dressed SUPER casual with a majority wearing jeans, but Taren and I definitely wanted to have our moment…lol. And we had SO many moments! Stay tuned for my coverage of the red carpet and all the celeb spottings from the after party in my next post and be sure to see The Best Man Holiday, in theaters on Friday ;)
