Read ALL about my review process including how I take swatches, photos, and more here.

black UP has so many shades and undertones in their foundation range that I have to dedicate an entire post to it—and I will really soon—that will help you figure out what your best shade would be in the French-based luxury makeup line dedicated to women of color. But I tested out their Fluid Foundation with their Loose Powder and am in so much awe that I had to tell you about it as soon as I could…lol.

So as I’m making my way around the brand (make sure you check the black UP tag to see what you might have missed and to keep posted on future reviews) I of course had to parlay into the foundation. Long time reader Lola actually left a comment on a previous black UP post telling us how much she loves the Fluid Foundation and I totally have to second that motion.

This moderate coverage second-skin foundation has an ultra-light, oil-free texture that is virtually undetectable, giving dull, tired complexions a radiant, luminous glow with a matte finish and long-lasting finish.

Available in an exceptional range of natural-looking shades that respond to the needs of ethnic women, to embellish and perfect skin with the utmost discretion.

• Gives radiant luminosity to a dull, tired complexion
• Light texture that moisturizes skin
• Oil-free, alcohol-free, fragrance-free
• Mix small amount of Fluid Foundation with your day cream to accentuate skin’s natural radiance and for a more natural look

I used shade FL 11 (I’m NW 47 but I’ll explain in my upcoming full black UP foundation post why MAC conversions may not work with this brand) which is a deep brown with what looks like a pretty decent mix of both red and yellow undertones though not completely neutral. It disappeared in my skin and gave me a very natural yet covered appearance—it was like my skin but photo shopped with realistic settings…lol. I set with black UP Loose Powder in shade PLI 4 and was amazed at how well the foundation stood up and looked like real skin. Though it’s been pretty cold out in NYC which allows me to wear makeup products my oily skin typically can’t really wear in the summer, I got a pretty good take of how this foundation might perform when it’s warmer out because I created a hot, humid atmosphere by running a hot shower for like 15 minutes…lol. It still looked great even after that plus all day wear.

Don’t worry—there’s a sifter included in the packaging to control waste—I just took it off so you can see the product

Bottom line: Great foundation if you have somewhat decent skin and want a natural finish and look. It’s oil-free and also suitable for those with oilier skins. It has pretty modest coverage but if you’re looking to cover stubborn blemishes, this formula might not be for you (I’ll be going over the other black UP foundation formulas soon so stay tuned).

Price and where to buy: Fluid Foundation: $39 at blackupcosmetics.com. Loose Powder $35 at blackupcosmetics.com. (Currently at the time of me writing this post you can get 20% off on your first purchase by signing up for their newsletter)

Stay tuned for MUCH more black | UP!

Hmm I’ve had my eye on black up cosmetics because it seems like their products match my undertones
