10 Minutes with Danielle: #CaribbeanCrawl Diary Day 3: What Happens at the Beach Doesn’t Stay at the Beach

IMG_1676

So day three of #CaribbeanCrawl was uh—interesting…lol. Jess and I are still in Tobago and staying at the lovely Tranquil Guest House where the lovely Norma is like the most gracious host ever. Our place is too cute, too—check out yesterday’s diary for pics :)

We finally made it to the beach. No dogs to bully us from traveling down the road although a herd of goat did come by in front of the house in the morning…lol.

Buccoo Bay is so gorgeous! I planned to get just my toes wet and then go lay out on the beach (especially since I’ve almost drowned at beaches twice in life—so trife), but I got really hot and said eff it and let the water get to like halfway between my ankles and my knees…lol. Then as Jess and I started taking pics, I noticed a bobbing motion coming from behind her. And girl—(this is where you might want to click off this post if you ain’t come here for after 9 PM type stuff) I noticed that the couple I saw earlier back there and the girl was uh—polishing his trophy. I couldn’t believe it. I was facing in their direction kinda and was trying to get Jess to notice it, too but she didn’t have her glasses on and I didn’t want to draw too much attention (look at me not wanting to draw too much attention to the couple drawing attention to themselves). Then they stopped. We were already ready to leave the beach and get grub, but on our way to get our towels, she was polishing the trophy AGAIN. And girl, (now seriously, if you did not come here to read after 9PM type stuff even though I’m using euphemisms, now’s the time to click off) when we turned around they were full on doing the horizontal shuffle—the standing Beyonce surfboard without any bathtubs filled up halfway. It was totally like that scene in one of the Sex and the City movies (the first one?) where Samantha spies on her next door neighbor having outdoors relations (wait or was that a SATC TV episode?)

A few minutes later after we left we noticed the couple walking behind us. I joked and said we should give them a round of applause but wait until they pass us first so they’re in front…lol. But when they passed us the guy said “I hope we didn’t run you off the beach,” and then we started DYING!!!! The guy explained that he and his girlfriend are in a long distance relationship and the girl was visiting so they were trying to get in enough time as possible. We said we were okay and they didn’t run us off (shoot, we even gave them both high fives—the guy asked us if we’re from NYC and when we said yes, he said to his girl ‘See, I told you they’re from NYC—people from NYC live their lives’) That and we’ve pretty much seen everything…lol. We chatted them up for a bit—they seemed like a nice couple and hey, get it when you can I guess…lol. Tobago is probably the best place for that because can you imagine them at Jones Beach :/

Tomorrow we head back to Trinidad and then Lexi flies in from Atlanta. We’re doing the AM Bush fete after she gets in—-cannot wait—after hearing a lot of the latest Soca, I’m ready to whine down de place! haha—talk soon!

P.S. Things that got me through the day
*Banana Boat Sport Performance Cool Zone SPF 30 spray—travel size makes for easy access especially for when you’re on the go—remember you’re supposed to reapply sunscreen every two hours especially when you’re outdoors and right after you come out of the water.
*Urban Decay Perversion 24/7 Glide-on Eye Pencil–my HG for the longest but I loved that not only did it stay on during this long, hot day but it also endured all the cry-laughing I did today with Jess.
*African Pride Olive Miracle Silky Smooth Edges–this stuff is amazing! It’s great for slicking down your edges—even on natural hair like mine that gets styled straight. I like that it doesn’t flake and the hold is moderate but not so strong that you feel like you gelled your hair to your skull. And it has a sweet but not overpowering scent.
*Conversation with strangers—yes, living in NYC you’ll come across some unfriendly and also straight up rude people, but you also come across tons of friendly people. I’m one of those people who’ll engage in convo with people I don’t know (while I size them up and keep my hands gripping my phone and bag), but in Tobago (and of course Trinidad) people always greet you as you walk by. Guys especially because well—you know why…lol. But it’s not the type of aggressive come-on I sometimes encounter at home. This is a more genuine looking-for-good-convo-and-hey-that-girl-is-cute-so-let-me-try-to-get-her-number-too kind of thing.
