How Your Mom’s Facebook Comment on Your Makeup Can Land Her in a Nursing Home

nude lipstick on dark skin

OK so before you call PETA or child protective services on me (haha) understand that this is all in jest. I’m not actually going to send my mom to a nursing home and I’m still chuckling HARD over the comment she left on my public Facebook page. I just thought this would be something fun to share aside from all the usual beauty content on this site :)

So my mom is one of those West Indian parents (Trinidadian to be exact) who will tell you when you’re not looking so hot regardless if you want to hear it or not. This of course would cause arguments when I was a teen (ok—and now as an adult…lol), but a comment she left on my nude lipstick post on Facebook had me DYING! Like seriously, I’m surprised no one in this hotel (I’m at the 21c Museum Hotel in Cincinnati) called security on me for cackling so loud. But I got her back…lol. And what you don’t see here is her “LMAOOOOOO” comment after my last comment because it wouldn’t fit in the screen shot proving that this exchange was all light-hearted :)

This is TOO funny! First of all, your Mom is hilarious and needs her own blog. Second, nudes are new to their generation so I understand her being apprehensive…BUT I think a good follow up post to this is you finding her a nude she’ll love. I know it’s out there! You guys are too cute. xo!

LOL—so true! It’s funny because she’s probably just so used to seeing me in red—there was a time when I thought I looked washed out in nudes but I love them now…lol. But there’s some colors in this series even I don’t like but did it for the blog (to the tune of the little girl in the “do it for the vine” video…lol)

Once my mom (who is also Trinidadian) saw me when I was going out to dinner with my sis and I was wearing a pretty cute outfit– patterned jumpsuit, statement jewelry, sparkly flat sandals, makeup and a big twist-out. And she said to me, “You need to dress like this all the time, instead of walking around looking frumpy, like you’re a 50-year-old woman.” Gotta be honest, it kinda hurt my feelings. But most of the time when she sees me, I’m on my way to work and I purposely dress in such a way that I won’t attract too much attention.

There was another time that I was going to a party wearing a strapless dress (with a VERY SUPPORTIVE bra I should add!) and she said, “Are you sure your breasts can stay in that dress? You’ve gotten a little thick.”

She’s definitely going to a home for that one, lol.

I love that your mom was watching B&B. Does she watch Y&R, too?

Lol! My mom always has something to say….one time i was testing out shades for the lamcome teint idole (sp?) foundation and i had a color that was too light. I came home one night and the first thing she said when i came in the door was: **long silence** “Baby why is yo makeup so light?” **more silence** “you look like casper! Boo bitch!” (-_-) lmao she got jokes tho…

Your mom’s earlier comments were awesome!! I can see how nudes can give a “botox” effect especially with a serious contour. The nude lip makes the face all the more “snatched”. Whenever I do a nude look, my mom (Who doesn’t really wear makeup) says to me: “ooh you look more “natural” today” (a slant, downplaying my usual bright pinks, reds and orange/coral lip or cheeks) ..lol Its better I play with the colors NOW in my youth, than looking like a foolish old woman who should be toning things down.

Mine does it all the time … but usually it’ll be a one liner and then she’ll call me with an hour long explanation of how she knows best.

At the risk of really being placed in an “ole nasty nursing home” by The Style and Beauty Doc, I think nudes look great sometimes. But I saw Nene Leakes on Housewives last week and she was wearing her usual blonde wig and off-white nude lipstick. Once she closed her mouth, the expression on her face looked like she was standing next to someone with BO…LOL. Love you all.

My mom hates when I wear matte foundation. I have oily skin and she likes when my face is “shiny” as she calls it. I call it greasy!

I have to add that being around Danielle (The Style and Beauty Doc) has enlightened me a lot about makeup. Thanks Danielle. I wore makeup a while ago because I was a Mary Kay beauty consultant. I raid Danielle’s makeup bags and just wear some great foundation, a little color on my cheek and of course, one of her beautiful lip color. I am allergic to eye makeup now that I am a little “mature”.

Last week at my grocery store I saw this lady wearing purple and blue eye shadow, lime green, iridescent lipstick, and to top it off, a jet black wig that was in dire need of a shampoo. My first thought was “What a mess! I’ve got to get this woman a mirror”, and invite her to have Danielle perform a beauty makeover, and send her to a “wigery”.

Girl, it’s a Black Mom thing. My Mom says the exact same things and she’s from South Carolina. She doesn’t care when and where she says it – phone call, wedding reception, where ever . Yes, I’ve made the nursing home threat. It doesn’t work (lol). The comeback is that my 95 year old Grandmother does it to my Mom and her sisters (lol). BTW, I love Nude lippies.
