Fitness Friday: My Current Post Workout Beauty Routine

My current workout routine consists of a mix of me going to the gym for workout classes (toning, cardio dance, CrossFit) and me working out at home (a mix of DVDs and then some days after a gym workout in the day, at night I’ll dance to BeyoncĂ©, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, and J. Lo while holding free weights…lol). But since I’m not trying to lose weight, tone up, and get acne or janky hair, I follow a pretty simple beauty routine. I go straight home from the gym and I don’t really need to be “presentable” afterwards so my routine is a little simpler than it would be if I worked outside my home. Yeah, so enough blabbing, here it is…

As soon as I’m done at the gym, I try to make a beeline for my apartment so I can get out of my sweaty clothes and hit the shower. If you leave those sweaty clothes on for too long, it can attract bacteria that can cause bacne and acne (or even worse…dun dun dunnnnn…) I’ll shower with an antibacterial soap, but every now and then I’ll use SheaMoisture African Black Soap Body Wash which helps to deep clean and prevent acne on the body. While I’m in the shower I’ll cleanse with Perricone MD Hypoallergenic Cleanser (when it’s a little warmer out, I’ll use Perricone Nutritive Cleanser and if it was a really hectic workout, I’ll use Mario Badescu Glycolic Cleanser). I don’t get breakouts often, but when I do I’ll use an acne treatment that contains either sulfur or salicylic acid to spot treat.

If I had a particularly grueling workout and it’s really sweated out my hair, I’ll cleanse with EDEN BodyWorks Coconut Shea CoWash and then follow with EDEN BodyWorks Coconut Shea Leave-In Moisturizer (this is much different than my usual hair routine which would involve a deep conditioner). If my hair is okay and doesn’t need to be cleansed, I’ll just spritz with Carol’s Daughter Black Vanilla Leave-In Conditioning Spray to hydrate (love this because it doesn’t make my hair revert or weigh it down when I’m wearing it straight).

After the shower it’s time to moisturize! I’ll go with either the SheaMoisture African Black Soap Moisturizer (if I notice any breakouts) or now that it’s been extremely cold, I’ll mostly do SheaMoisture Argan Oil & Raw Shea Lotion (smells sooo good) while my skin is still a little damp. For my face I’ll use my trusty Perricone MD Face Finishing Moisturizer–BUT this is because I typically do not go anywhere after I workout (I work out either in the morning and then go home to work or at night and I go home to work…lol. Plus it gets dark at like 5 PM here now in the winter). BUT if you do have to go back outside in the daytime after a workout, make sure you use a sunscreen.

I’m ordering some Shea Moisture products from Target thanks to this post. I’m unsure if that’s a good thing for my wallet. Lol. Hope you’re well, Danielle!
