Hilarious—the other day I was walking around my apartment and out of nowhere realized I don’t nearly eat as much fried food now as I once did. My mind works really strange like that where random thoughts just pop in when I’m doing random things.
But to know how I basically grew up eating fried chicken wings and French fries (told you I’m from Queens…lol) and how as an adult I’d eat fried foods like it was the apocalypse and the cure was in deep fried delicacies, figuring out how to eliminate fried foods is a HUGE feat for me.
I was pretty skinny/slim/lanky as a kid and even though things like breasts and hips started to slowly creep on my frame into my teen years, I was still pretty slim. I’d eat any kind of junk after school and just kept swearing I’d eat healthy when I became an adult. But I’d been an adult for like 10 years and still wasn’t eating like I should. Sure I’d been able to cut out sodas and juices, but who can brag about drinking water when you have a two-piece next to it? lol
One of the main reasons I decided to do Weight Watchers earlier this year was because while I knew all the tricks to lose weight pretty quickly after doing them in the past, I wanted something that would become a lifestyle for me—to finally be the adult eating vegetables on a regular basis that I said I’d be when I was a kid.
The biggest part of how I use Weight Watchers and the biggest thing that works for me (because you can choose other options) is the tracking. At first I would be over my allotted points for the day by lunch time, but then I eventually got the hang of it and also learned I better start cooking more if I wanted to stay on track. Weight Watchers has a ton of easy to follow (and O-M-G tasty!) recipes that also incorporate tons of vegetables (I post the recipes I want to try along with other cool things on Pinterest). I’ve been eating so many filling and good for me foods and I don’t even realize it which is exactly what I need because I’m in this for the long haul ;)
But yes—back to fried foods.
Because so many of them carry SO many points, I’ve learned over the last few months that they’re just not worth it. Seriously, half a fried chicken meal with French fries could be worth as many points as I would need for the entire day and we all know that ONE meal isn’t filling me up for the whole day so after time I just stopped wanting it on a regular basis. Everyone who’s known me since I was a kid knows how much I LOVED to eat at McDonald’s but now I pass it like “BYE, FELICIA.” Not worth it.
This isn’t to say that I don’t have the occasional “splurge.” My Weight Watchers plan has an allowance of extra “any time” points every week (that I most of the time don’t use) and I can use that for when I once in a blue moon do have something fried. And when that happens, it better be good like this Korean fried chicken from Kyochon. As Tim Gunn would say, “make it count!” haha
Now for me, I gladly pay the $12 or so monthly fee for Weight Watchers Online because I need that accountability. I need to track everything I eat and have it all calculated for me and I need the recipe library to find new things to eat plus all the physical activity I do so I stay on track. It helps me immensely for my “for the long haul” fitness goals. But of course things like keeping a food diary have helped many meet their own goals—I personally need the “crutch” that WW gives me, but we all have different learning curves so to speak.
But I feel triumphant that I’ve finally been able to release myself from the clutches of #allfriedeverything…lol.
Bravo ma’am!! The best changes are when we dont even realize they’re happening. So you’ve actually made a lifestyle change, haven’t freaked out your body, and I’m sure you feel great! Good job girly

Yup! THEE best! thank you :)
I credit WW for making me realize how much damage a 2 piece from Popeye’s could do. Don’t let me even get started on how many points a Popeye’s biscuit has?

RIGHT! Makes you want to flip over EVERY table in EVERY Popeye’s…lol. After the first few days of using WW I realized exactly how I gained every single pound I gained…lol.
Nothing major. I just started keeping a food diary. Through it I have figured out 2 food allergies that didn’t show up on test. I also started cooking more because of my food allergies. Of course since I’m not triggering my allergies I feel loads better.

That’s amazing that you were able to figure that out from keeping a food diary! It’s so stressful having a food allergy and nothing shows up on tests. I spent a ton of time (and money) a few years ago trying to figure out why almost everything I ate made my stomach hurt only to find out it was stress from the job I had smh.
So great to hear you’re feeling much better!
