Sometimes lip pencils can be the bane of one’s existence—they can drag on the lips and then they add one extra step to your beauty routine. But they can also be very much needed—they help to prevent feathering, can make your lip color last longer, and just gives you an all-around neater appearance particularly when you’re wearing a bold or deep lip color. The new NARS Velvet Lip Pencil though definitely falls in the latter category.
The 12-shade range features colors to match just about any lip shade you throw its way. I received shades Nihiwatu (described as a cardinal red–it leans the way of a blue-toned red) and Playa Dorado (described as a vibrant orange-red) for review consideration from the brand. They glide on the lips easily and on me lasted about seven hours (with eating, drinking, and a drive up to the Adirondacks—multitasking at its best…lol) before they started to feather—it actually lasted longer than my lip color.
Bottom line: Great addition to your makeup stash particularly if you’re a NARS fan and have a need for a new lip pencil. I love how Nihiwatu matches up with MAC Ruby Woo so as long as I’m wearing MAC Ruby Woo, I’ll be wearing Nihiwatu.
