How I Shamelessly Prolong My Pedicure

I love a fresh pedicure as much as the next beauty-obsessed girl. There’s nothing like the feeling of well-manicured toes and smooth heels sashaying out of a salon, and the way they look with a pair of “bring me closer to the heavens” sandals? Not to also mention just simply walking around the house and having cute toes stare back at me when I look down kinda makes my day.

BUT the time it takes to actually get a pedicure sometimes? *EYEROLL* I actually think one of the owners of the salon I’ve been going to for the past year or so secretly hates me and lets people go ahead of me under the premise of them “having appointments” so there’s also the whole waiting around just to get someone to let me splash my feet around the bowl. SMH My laziness of finding a new salon that isn’t far from my house and has late hours is clearly doing me in. But the point is ain’t nobody got time sometimes.

However it is the season of the open toe and no one is trying to scare small children with orangutan-ish feet. So if I need to prolong my pedicure beyond say a week and a half or so (like I did when I fell through a crate and cut my leg up pretty badly and didn’t want to go to the salon) and I need to have presentable feet, here’s what I do:

prolong-pedicure

* Tackle my heels with a soft yet effective and moisturizing body scrub (I LOVE just about any of the ones from SheaMoisture) while I’m in the shower using the Pedi-Rock. OMG the Pedi-Rock has been such a godsend for my heels—I got it a few months ago from the brand after they invited me out for a pedicure and to try out their lineup of foot care products. It’s curved to easily smooth over the contours of your feet and it’s gentle yet effective.

* At night before bed I’ll slather my feet with Vaseline and put some socks on before I go to bed. When I wake up in the morning my feet will be as soft as a baby’s bottom.

* Every once in a while I’ll put a top coat on over my toe nail polish to give it some extra shine. But if things are really bad—like unsightly chipping, I’ll fill in the blanks with a fresh coat of polish. (In the winter I’ll sometimes opt for a gel pedicure so I don’t have to wait around FOREVER for my toes to dry—the downside though is it’s a pain in the behind to soak the gel off when the time comes)

* I also make sure I apply an SPF lotion to my feet not forgetting to get in between my toes. This doesn’t have anything directly to do with prolonging my pedicure, but I always try to tie in some sun care any chance I get…lol.

Such a clever idea, I’m going to start using Vaseline, especially during the Winter!

No—I feel like I need a little bit of grip on my heels or so I tell myself so I’m not slipping all over my apartment…lol. I use it maybe once a week or every few days depending on how my heels are looking.
