A powder foundation with a luminous finish from NARS? OMG—the second I was sent the news of new NARS All Day Luminous Powder Foundation from the brand I was all giddy. (Read more about the launch here). It lasts up to 12 hours, fights shine, has versatile coverage (you could wear it dry for a natural luminous finish or use a damp sponge to apply it for a soft-matte finish) and um, it’s NARS, a brand we love long time for bringing us things like Exhibit A Blush and Train Bleu Matte Lip Pencil. I was sent the deepest shade Macao for review consideration and damn near got a paper cut trying to break open the box from excitement once it arrived.
What went wrong here because I do believe the foundation is everything it claims and more from trying it out, is that Macao is too light to be its deepest shade. I’m typically Trinidad in most NARS foundations (isn’t that a lovely coincidence—the daughter of Trini parents wears Trinidad in NARS…lol) and there’s usually two to three shades after that. I could tell Macao (described as medium- dark with yellow undertones) had a lovely finish but it was just too light for me and no, it didn’t oxidize much at all. So now I’m all in my feelings because I REALLY want this foundation. OK—I’m being dramatic, but I do want to send Jedi mind messages to the powers that be at NARS to make this in like three more deeper shades.
Bottom line: If you love a powder foundation and don’t require a ton of coverage (and are also Macao or lighter), I think you’ll love. You’ll also enjoy that you can wear it as it comes for a natural luminous finish or use a damp sponge to get a soft-matte finish. It’s like the powder foundation lover’s dream.
