Can’t believe we’re already just days away from 2015! I love this time of year because it’s like turning a new leaf and promise for better days. I try not to make ridiculous resolutions that I can’t keep nor do I feel you have to wait until the New Year to decide to do things differently in your life, but since this is the season why not do it now ;)
So first let’s talk about my 2014 resolutions which I posted here. I’m happy to report that I kept many of them! *throws confetti* I grew out my shaved side cut, I kinda used more of my makeup, I didn’t try too many extreme exercises but I did take swimming lessons and got into a weight training routine, I was better about spending on clothes but I didn’t really channel focus on investment pieces (my thirst levels got too high for places like ASOS, H&M, Missguided, etc. and I don’t have money for most of the designer stuff I like…lol), but one thing I’m happy I got a hold of in 2014 was work/life balance. I took breaks—stopped working on the weekends, and enjoyed things more. When you work for yourself and you’re the only employee in your company, you can tend to constantly be working. But what’s the point of having the type of freedom that comes from working for yourself if you’re not free? Plus I can probably blame working too much for causing my weight gain (to which I’ve already lost almost 30 pounds). I got to travel a bit (see where I’ve gone here), not as much as I’d like but still thankful for my experiences. I’ll be in Grenada soon celebrating New Year’s Eve though! I called it into existence last year as I was scrolling through Instagram watching so many people go to tropical locations last winter and vowed I wouldn’t be spending NYE 2014 anywhere cold…lol.
So here’s my fashion and beauty resolutions for 2015:
1. Try more protective styles
I’m no stranger to versatility with my hair, but this year I want to try more half-wigs and full wigs. The idea is to try things that allow me different styling options but then I don’t have to commit like I would with a sew-in. I already have a half-wig I had made but will get a couple more to wear with some of the hair I have in my stash. I also need to get a few kinkier textured half-wigs and wigs so I can play with my natural texture more. Possibly grow out the heat trained hair I have in the front of my hair from straightening the front area of my hair (aka “leave out”) when I have straighter extensions in.
2. Only buy things that are my style
I’m pretty good at this already, but I do tend to go off track sometimes either because something is on sale or because I saw someone wearing it and I got obsessed…lol. But every time I purge my closet I roll my eyes at myself over more than a couple of purchases. To combat this I already started a “Stuff I Wanna Buy” board on Pinterest (I keep it secret so I’m not judged…lol) so every time I browse a site I pin the item there and then walk away from buying it for at least a day. This actually helps bring my thirst levels down and things I normally would’ve jumped to buy ASAP sometimes don’t even get bought once I’ve been through my “cooling period.” I’ve also found this to be a great way to keep tabs on items that go on sale (some retailers even alert you through Pinterest when an item you pinned goes on sale).
I also have an Outfit Ideas board on Pinterest which helps me keep track of what my style aesthetic is as well as outfits I want to try.
3. Travel more
This will probably be on my list every year…lol. I’ve gone some cool places already though not nearly enough. I have my eyes on Costa Rica, London, Paris, Greece, South Africa, and one day I’ll spin a globe and see where it lands and consider going that place, too…lol. And if I spend less on fashion and beauty stuff, I can have more towards travel. In fact I’m renaming one of my online savings accounts as my travel fund and going to stash some cash there every month.
I also plan to regularly stalk The Flight Deal to book a really good deal to a destination on my list. Over the weekend I brought up round trip tickets to Abu Dhabi for like $233 but passed on it because um, I don’t know a ton about Abu Dhabi and when I asked my sister if she would go with me, she sounded like she thought I was crazy—and she goes EVERYWHERE…lol.
4. Do more video
I’ve had a Youtube channel for years but it was kinda there just for times when I maybe needed a video to accompany a post. I’ve done some Instagram videos (you can check them out by searching #TSABDBeautyVideo on IG) but I’m planning more full length fashion and beauty videos in 2015.
5. Cook even more
After successfully getting my life together and losing weight on Weight Watchers, I’ve been cooking a whole lot more. I plan on continuing this in 2015 as I have some more weight to go and then work to maintain the weight loss. I’ve been making some pretty delicious stuff thanks to recipes I’ve been following and next year’s focus is on making even more plus making better for me versions of some of my favorite indulgences.
And that’s it for now aside from some personal business goals I have written in a notebook so I know it’s real…lol.
Happy New Year! You guys made 2014 so amazing with every post you’ve read, every comment you write, every email you send me, and every post on social media of mine you engage with. I’m so lucky to have such great people like you read this blog and I wish you all the best in 2015 because you all deserve it.
Hi Dani!!! I don’t comment as much and I apologize but know I still read everything! Lol you should be so proud that you kept most of your goals. Your news goals are all realistic to o and just an extension of your previous resolutions. Bravo. I do hope you incorporate more natural hairstyles. I’m biased tho lol. I love the cook more idea, and I want to as well, but being that I’ve been vegetarian for a year, now I want to cook more vegan meals. At least two meals per week. And yes, more videos!!!! Lol
Traveling more is also exciting. My mom’s 30th bay present to me was a trip to London this coming June. However I decided I want to go to Panama. So yep it’s happening! I’m so excited. Sidenote, you should have definitely gotten that Abu Dhabi deal! My close friends took advantage of the exact same one and they’re now going in September. So don’t hesitate, Just Do It! Lol have fun this NYE btw!
You want to only buy things that are your style. I totally understand how hard that is. We agree completely. My goal as far is that is to still sew more. So I want to sew two articles of clothing per month. That way it truly is about my style and not magazines.
Of course I want/need to workout more, get more sleep, and dig even deeper into my Bible. Oh and lastly, work on my emotions and listening skills with my friends. Happy New Years girly!

Hey Taryn!!!
Awww—no worries, girl! Glad you found the time to comment today :)
That’s awesome you got a trip to London as a present! I want to go on a shopping trip there next year…lol. That Abu Dhabi deal WAS amazing but I don’t “fight” things when it first doesn’t seem to work out because then next thing I know something bad happens :x
So cool that you can sew. I’m SO bad at it…lol. Plus I have no patience for it.
Listening skills and emotions are good ones! I might write another resolutions post because I realize I forgot a few…lol.
Happy New Year!!!!
Kudos to accomplishing most of this years resolutions. I’m looking to do more videos next year as well. Looking forward to yours!

I’m right there with you when it comes to traveling more in 2015. Hubby and I recently booked a trip to Asia in March. I’m super excited! Some other resolutions I have include getting fit for our holiday and just for overall long-term health and growing my blog into something I can be really proud of.
