I went to Catholic school in NYC from kindergarten through my senior year in high school and took public transportation for a good 75-80% of that time. I also dreaded the “winter uniform” which consisted of wack polyester pants that were all wrong and probably too little in inseam for my always tall self (they weren’t so bad by the time I got to high school though). So I learned a thing or two about “under-layering” (a term I think I just made up) growing up in Queens and commuting to school in a uniform skirt. I’d pack all kinds of stuff under there so my legs would be all toasty—layers of tights, long johns, shoot—sometimes even jeans which I had to take off before heading inside because they weren’t allowed in school unless it was dress down day.
But then absent of having to be in a building before the morning bell, I didn’t really wear skirts or dresses much once the temperature went below like 45/50. It was pants all the way and mad layers underneath that. But lately I’ve been kinda having a thing for skirts and dresses (and for always being on someone’s online clothing store perusing like it’s my job. SMH). But I saw this check dress at MissGuided (my current obsession) and I had to make it happen. I have leggings underneath and then over the knee boots, but I could have went “there” and added tights (or two) under the leggings and a really fitted long-sleeve top under the dress. How’s that for warmth?
And then of course there’s my coat (also seen here) which seems like it doesn’t make sense because it’s short-sleeve but the sleeves are detachable so if I want I could add the sleeves. They didn’t go so well with this particular look though so I 86’d ’em.

I just adore your sense of style and the way you put things together. I’m big on layering around this time of year too. It’s usually just a pair of tights under jeans and leggings but I’m gonna start adding some extra layers. It’ll be nice to wear some skirts and dresses this time of year. Especially since it’s been considerably warm here in Michigan. Thanks for sharing!

Hey Fancie!
Hope you had a great holiday!!!
Thanks so much for the sweet comments!
Yes, layering is so key especially this time of year and for those of us up north. I’ve been in GA with family and it’s been pretty warm here—I only needed my leather moto jacket and there were times when I felt too hot in it..lol.
Same for me, a catholic education until college. Under layering was my life!
