I’ve been known to say plenty of times that I refuse to pay over like $7 for mascara with a few exceptions (like YSL Faux Cils Shocking for one). Reason being since you have to toss your mascara after three months of use and since many drugstore mascaras are packing similar technologies in formula and brush shape as their department store counterparts, why pay $20+ for ONE tube? This is also coming from the same girl who didn’t blink when buying Tom Ford lipsticks and a foundation stick (I mean, I DID get the stick signed by Tom Ford himself but still) and I regularly buy department store and high end beauty products. But a mascara over $7? I even think $7 for a drugstore mascara seems kinda high…lol. I’d say $5 is more my sweet spot but if I’m stuck replenishing at the overpriced drugstores in my neighborhood then I have to adjust for the markup.

But Benefit Roller Lash Mascara? I’m happily handing over my Sephora VIB Rouge card and form of payment without hesitation.

I bought this myself last week on the day it launched (the thirst is real, yo…lol) and I knew I was going to like it when I saw the brush. See the brush is what makes or breaks a mascara. The skinnier the brush, the more I know it’ll do wonders to add volume and length to my medium-ish lashes AND for getting the itty bitty lashes on the corners of my eyes. With Benefit Roller Lash you want to be careful you don’t have too much product on the wand before you apply to your lashes or it can get a little goopy and clumpy. I remove the applicator from the tube in a way that any excess is swept on the sides of the inside of the tube. I then start from the root of my lashes and wiggle wiggle until I get to the tips then I move onto my bottom lashes. I do my other eye and then add another coat to the first eye and then the other eye again. This gives the lashes a little bit of time to dry slightly and be ready for the second coat.

My lashes were longer and more voluminous. No clumping and flaking all day. Plus the pigment is jet black like I like my mascaras.

Removal was pretty easy but then I use cleansing oils to take my makeup off which makes life just so easy…lol.

I know some may ask how it compares to other Benefit mascaras, but I haven’t used Benefit They’re Real Mascara in a while though I reviewed it here four years ago. But if I remember right, I think They’re Real was more about defining the lashes while Roller Lash is more about volume.

Bottom line: I’m sold, but mascaras tend to be a category where people tend to be split with their opinions. If your lashes benefit from smaller wands (typically “smaller” lashes that need volume) then these might be up your alley. Be very mindful to not have too much product on the wand like I explained above or things could get pretty clumpy.

Price and where to buy: $24 at Sephora (plus 4% cash back when you use eBates) and Benefit counters nationwide.
