So highlighting and contouring though not a new technique is all the rage these days as more and more brands create contour kits to make the whole beating face experience fit in the palm of your hand. Prior to the onset of kits, highlighting and contouring fans simply took concealer, foundation, powder, matte eyeshadow, etc. that was about two shades lighter than their skin tone for highlighting and one about two shades darker for contouring to get the job done. That’s how I did mine especially since most contour kits don’t have shades deep enough to contour my chocolate skin (see what foundation shades I wear here) that is until the Cover FX Contour Kit and the Anastasia Beverly Hills Cream Contour Kit. A while back—like maybe five months ago—I bought Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick in Espresso with the purpose of reviewing it and then forgot about it as it was buried in a box underneath a pile of “products to be reviewed.”

Anyway, Espresso is a deep chocolate with red undertones. It’s not quite as deep as the N120 in the Cover FX Contour Kit but if you’re around my complexion (lighter than me or slightly darker than me), it’ll do a decent job. I love foundation sticks because they’re easy to manipulate (you can sheer them out or build them up) and are a breeze to blend. Exact case with this stick. I’d own one in my own shade but Bobbi Brown as of me writing this never really had a shade that matched me in both undertone and color (I prefer not to go too red with foundations and the one closest to me has red undertones from what I remember). Their concealers are definitely good to go and you can see my review on the Bobbi Brown Creamy Concealer Kit here.

The other night I went to a Cover FX press event and got to talk to the lovely team who make things like their amazing foundation shade range happen and guess what? TONS more new shades are coming including some really deep (and I mean REALLY deep—N120 is coming back and shades even deeper than that with tons more undertone options) shades they’re working on. I’ll have the scoop soon and will share what I can so stay tuned :)
Compared to N120:

Bottom line: Pretty deep foundation shade for contouring deeper skin tones. Not the absolute deepest, but a good option. I say try it out next time you’re either at Sephora or a Bobbi Brown counter to see how it looks on you.
Price and where to buy: Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation Stick is $44 at Sephora (plus 8% cash back when you use eBates) & Bobbi Brown counters.
It looks pretty creamy. Like it’ll be very easy to apply and blend. I’m curious to check out her foundation sticks now. I don’t think I’ve ever tried any of her products yet lol

it’s SO creamy and easy to apply and blend :)
Have you tried the fashion fair teak foundation stick? If so which one do u prefer between the two?

I have tried Teak but back in 2011: https://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/2011/05/fashion-fair-foundation-stick-perfect-finish-souffle-makeup-eyeshadow-and-lip-teasers-review-swatches-and-pics/
I don’t have it anymore—I’d have to assume the difference between the two would be in color but again, I don’t have it anymore so I don’t remember.

And honestly, just get whichever one looks better on your skin.
hi! I have a medium skin tone and do you think the espresso shade would look great as a contour on my face? thanks!

Hey Alli!
What do you mean by a “medium skin tone?” What foundation shades do you normally wear?
