Me with finished makeup sans lashes
Applying false lashes might LOOK hard to those who feel apprehensive about them but it’s actually a lot easier than you think. No, seriously it’s not that bad. Pull up a chair and sit for a second and I’ll show you how to apply fake lashes.
What You Need:
Lashes
Lash glue (usually comes with a lash kit, if not I LOVE Duo)
Scissors
Lash applicator (typically comes with lash kits or you can use a pair of tweezers)
Lash curler
Q-tips and Vaseline (for removal)
So first things first, I’m bringing you this really fun post thanks to Sally Beauty Supply—remember last month I showed you how to easily and chicly get rid of even the peskiest glitter polish using items from the Sally’s Nail Studio. We’re back at it again and they’ve asked me about my favorite makeup product available at the beauty superstore. For as long as I can remember, I’d hightail it over to the Lynbrook, NY Sally Beauty Supply and grab as many Ardell Demi Wispies packages as I possibly could. I love them because they give you a little extra oomph with your makeup without making you look like Janice from The Muppets. They’re one of thee most natural-looking fake lashes but the brand also sells more dramatic styles and even individuals if you’re looking for more looks.
But back to this lash pictorial.
Before lashes:
So the first thing you want to do is take your lashes out of the package and then wrap them around your finger or a similarly shaped item. This helps the lashes take the shape of the curve of your lash line and helps them adhere better. Wait a minute or so to let it set.
Next measure the lashes to ensure they fit you—cutting them if necessary. My eyes are pretty big so I almost never have to cut…lol.
I like to start with a coat of mascara on my own lashes so I do that next. Then I apply lash glue on the strip of the lashes making sure to not apply too much (it’ll take forever to dry and you risk the lashes coming off sooner than you want).
I blow on the lash a bit so the glue gets tacky and then I apply them in the area right where my own lashes meet my lid. Use a pair of tweezers or the plastic guide some of the Ardell kits at Sally Beauty Supply come with to help steady your hands. I prefer to just use my fingers, but use a guide if needed.
After applying, I wait a few seconds to allow the lash to set.
Then I grab a lash curler and press at the base of the lashes to ensure the fake lashes have adhered properly.
Last I’ll apply a little mascara to make sure my own lashes blend in with the fake lashes. And then you’re done!
After with lashes on:
See, that wasn’t bad! I love how the Demi Wispies helped open my eyes more and gave a little bit of drama without making me look too made over. But I also love some of the more dramatic varieties, which are also available at Sally’s.
P.S. When it comes time to remove your lashes, PLEASE DO NOT tug them off. Instead grab a Q-tip and dip it in baby oil, Vaseline, or cleansing oil then glide the saturated tip along the strip of the lash to loosen the glue. The lash should come then off easily :)
I used Vaseline and Q-Tips, but you could also pick up Face Secrets Cotton Swabs and Eyelash Adhesive Remover at Sally.

Thank you for the tips. I bought some false lashes recently and never used them as I didn’t realise they could be cut and I have quite small eyes. By the way, your makeup is absolutely stunning. what products did you use? I know you use Excite on your cheeks- I bought it based on your recommendation but it clashed too much with the yellow undertones in my skin. Can you recommend another corally blush that would work with my NC50 / NW45 skin tone?

Hey Faith!
Yes, definitely cut the lashes so they work better for your eye shape and size :)
Thanks! I use mostly Cover FX for foundation and concealer—you can see what shades and stuff here: https://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/2014/01/foundation-matches-for-dark-nw45-nw47-skin/ and now I’ve been using their contour kit a lot, too: https://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/2015/02/new-cover-fx-contour-kit-must-brought-back-shade-n120/
Brows I use Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade + Brow Wiz: https://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/2014/01/anastasia-dipbrow-pomade-review-and-swatches/
Liner: https://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/2012/02/urban-decay-perversion-247-glide-on-eye-pencil-review/
Blush: https://www.thestyleandbeautydoctor.com/category/beauty-health-makeup-hair/beauty/50-shades-of-blush/
So I don’t understand how you’re using NC50 and NW45 if you have yellow undertones. Can you tell me what you’re using?
Excite is a very universal blush! Since you already bought it, have you tried varying application—toning it down or using it with different lip and eye colors?
gawd you look gorgeous! So luminous too

Thanks so much!!!!
I didn’t know people cut them, maybe I’ll have to, my eyes are small. But ive always been scared to wear lashes cus my lashes are tight/curly…they curl all the way back.literally in the way when I put on eyeliner so I feel like ilk get glue on my real lashes. But I think ill look nice with some lol

Hey Bonita!
Yup—cutting is necessary for many :)
You’ll get lash glue on the base of your real lashes either way—this is why you don’t want to rip them off when you’re done (because: OUCH and um, you want to keep your real lashes…lol).
They’re fun for when you want to really make your eyes pop and I agree, you’ll like nice with some (and without, too!)
Great tips! I’m a falsies freak so I’m all too familiar with this routine but this is great for newbies
Hello Gorgeous,
Please what lash curler is that? And can you do of the best out there quality and price. If you can thanks

Hey Chuqqy!
It’s a Tweezerman lash curler sold at Sally’s Beauty Supply. Thanks for the post request, but to be honest it wouldn’t be the best post coming from me…lol. Lash curlers aren’t something I buy often or test out often so I’ve only ever in life really used Tweezerman and Revlon lash curlers. And then for me to find out what else is out there means I’d have to buy a bunch of lash curlers and for a product category I don’t really buy from often (because the ones I own are still in very good shape) wouldn’t make sense for me. Sorry I can’t be of much help :(
