So here’s the thing about skin: you have to work at it. Thanks to my mom (and granddad—he had amazingly glowing skin well into his 80s) I have pretty good skin genes, but that doesn’t exempt me from working on my skin daily—before bed, in the morning, and throughout the day especially if I’m outdoors in the sun. Skin sometimes also goes through cycles that don’t seem to make any sense and is also greatly affected by the weather.
My oily skin loves warm, pretty dry (as opposed to dry or super dry) climates—it thrives and prospers. When I was in Grenada over New Year’s Eve my skin was doing the most to be its best. I was going foundation-free—aside from concealer under my eyes and on a dark spot on my chin and on my forehead to cover a curling burn—and one of my friends swore I was wearing full makeup until I made her swipe my face to prove my foundation-free stance.
But once one leaves the great-for-skin climate of Grenada and comes back to winter in NYC, stuff happens. Monthly cycles also happen. So you have a combo of hormonal breakouts (I get the SAME one on my chin every period) then when the breakouts go away here come the dark spots. Top all of that with the skin working slower than it usually does to repair itself in the winter (which then causes a build-up of dead skin cells on the surface—you may notice your skin tends to dull once the temps drop).
I was still consistent with my routine and my skin was okay but definitely needed a little kick and coincidentally the opportunity to participate in Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum #GetAdvanced 4-week challenge surfaced. I partnered with Boots No7 to test out the serum for four weeks to see if my skin did in fact look younger as they say.
OK—let’s back up a bit for those who might want to know what a serum is exactly. No worries—we all learn at some point.
So serum in a nutshell is skincare in a concentrated form. Depending on what the serum is targeting, it’ll contain ingredients in a higher concentration to help improve the skin. Serums are typically lighter in texture than many of your other skincare products and depending on what else is in your regimen, it’ll be the last thing you put on before your moisturizer.
Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum (it also comes in an Intense formula) works to reduce the appearance of lines and wrinkles by up to 50% in just four weeks. It promises to be so effective that other people can see a significant visible improvement in your deep lines and wrinkles.
Now I don’t have any lines or wrinkles that would worry me (I have some creases under my eyes I’ve had for yeaaaars but that’s another story) but Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum is also good for anti-aging so the lines and wrinkles that are even thinking of showing up down the line are given a stern side eye.
Immediately after putting on the serum I noticed some blurring action going on with my skin—my pores which I thought I didn’t have a problem with looked even better and smooth and my skin just looked more radiant overall within seconds of putting it on. This made for a great base for makeup.
I mean, look what it did immediately for the back of my hand (which is WAY drier and more worn than my face)…

After :
Over the four weeks my results were subtle but I definitely had some improvements in my skin’s texture and radiance.

After (four weeks later):
Bottom line: Results will of course vary between us all when it comes to skincare. I really liked the immediate pore and imperfection blurring action and was pleased with how my skin looked after four weeks. Of course you’ll want to give this more than four weeks to get optimal results. If you’re a woman of a certain age and looking for something at the drugstore level to give your skin a youthful boost and reduce the look of lines and wrinkles, it’s worth a whirl.
Price and where to buy: Boots is now at Walgreens and Duane Reade (my local stores have HUGE Boots displays you can easily and joyfully get lost in…lol). Boots No7 Protect & Perfect Advanced Serum is $24.99.
Disclosure: I was asked to participate in the #GetAdvanced campaign, sponsored by Boots. Although I have been compensated, all opinions are my own.

Although your skin was like perfection anyway I can still see a difference lol. It seems to really smooth the skin and blur imperfections
