Listen, I’ve been talking about sunscreen here since forever and if you’re STILL not wearing any, we’re not homies. Not only do you need to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful rays, but uh—hello—do we NOT want better skin? Proper use of sunscreen can help fight the signs of aging and is also an important component in fighting dark spots. But I get it—some sunscreens can make those of us with darker skin look ashy and weirdly iridescent. We ain’t with all that…lol. This is why I’m always testing sunscreens and bringing you the ones that blend into the skin without the residue. You can see ones I’ve reviewed in the past here, but here’s SEVEN more including a makeup setting spray with SPF…

It offers simple spray application so you can refresh while on the go.What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– PhthalatesWhat else you need to know:
This product is cruelty-free.
A makeup setting spray with SPF. FINALLY, right? I actually got to try this back in the winter when I was writing a story for Cosmo for Latinas but I couldn’t say anything since it was embargoed until May this year. Prior to this makeup setting spray’s arrival, I’d use a mineral sunscreen from Peter Thomas Roth to reapply my sunscreen when wearing makeup, but now a spray is pretty genius. Just make sure you hold it a few inches away from your face when spraying—get too close and too much product will come out and put weird little white circles on your face. Also be careful when inhaling while spraying—there’s an FDA warning on spray sunscreens (they say there’s a risk of inhalation) so err on the side of caution when using this or any sunscreen spray.

(sent for review consideration)
Official description:
What it is:
An innovative multifunctional formula that provides an antiaging treatment, primer, and SPF 30 sun protection in every pump. What it is formulated to do:
Flawless and fabulous in just one step. This lightweight formula acts as an antiaging and corrective treatment, a primer, and an SPF moisturizer to smooth skin and improve visible signs of aging. Mushroom peptides diminish the look of fine lines and wrinkles by helping aid natural regulation of collagen and elastin, while a soft-focus complex smooths and blurs imperfections for improved tone and texture. Good for all skintones and everyday use, it features SPF 30 sun protection with invisible sunscreen technology. What else you need to know:
This product is scientifically proven, dermatologist developed, and tested on people, not animals.Murad Invisiblur Perfecting Shield SPF 30 is a gluten-free formula. Although the product does contain a barley oil derivative, gluten is not an oil-soluble protein. That insolubility means that the barley oil used in this formula is a naturally gluten-free substance, which gives Murad a high level of confidence that any of the barley oil derivative used in this formula is also gluten-free. In addition, the manufacturer of the derivative has tested it for gluten and provided Murad with explicit assurances that it is 100 percent free of gluten.
Murasol: an advanced level of sun damage defense that preserves a glowing, youthful-looking complexion by providing skin with protection against both broad spectrum UV rays and free-radicals. This proprietary blend of powerful antioxidants defends against UV damage by penetrating skin’s top layers and creating a protective barrier of encapsulated free radical neutralizers.
I’ve already RAVED about how much I love this here—it’s a multi-tasking product that blurs imperfections (i.e. wrinkles, pores, etc.), primes the skin for makeup, AND has SPF in it. I use it regularly as the product I mix my Cover FX Custom Cover Drops with the most.

Listen, even with all we know about sun exposure risks, there’s just going to be some people who will still sit out in the sun to tan. While I definitely DO NOT condone purposely sitting out to tan, the least I guess you can do is apply a sunscreen oil (I still don’t think it’s safe though). But I still love that this gives the skin a gorgeous sheen and has a pleasant scent so it’s also nice for legs even when you’re not out tanning.

Supergoop! Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50
(sent for review consideration)
Official description:
What it is:
An innovative three-in-one mist that sets makeup, helps control oil and shine, and refreshes your defense against photoaging UV rays with an uplifting scent of rosemary and mint. What it is formulated to do:
The secret to totally sun-safe skin is reapplying your UV defense at least every two hours—when in direct sunlight. Defense Refresh Setting Mist SPF 50 is the best way to reapply UV protection throughout the day without disturbing your makeup. Inspired by the trends in mists, SUPERGOOP!’s founder, Holly Thaggard, wanted to provide a product that would deliver the benefits of both a makeup setting spray as well as a refreshing afternoon pick-me-up, but with the added and necessary age preventative benefit of broad-spectrum SPF 50 UV protection. Optical diffusing silica silylate controls oil and scatters light to reduce shine and provide a matte finish while the formula is enlivened with an invigorating essence of antioxidant-rich rosemary to help visible slow skin aging, improve complexion, and soothe inflammation. What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– SulfatesWhat else you need to know:
This product is clinically tested, noncomedogenic, non-irritating, and allergy-free. It is formulated without synthetic fragrance and oxybenzone.
Another makeup setting spray with SPF! The thing with this is you have to be careful with how closely you spray it on because if you spray too close, too much product will disperse and you’ll have little white spots on your face. I have a lab sample I received when I was doing my Cosmo for Latinas story before the product launched to the public, so I assumed that the sprayer was a little wonky because it wasn’t the final product. But then I glanced over on Sephora.com and saw some people having issues with the sprayer which I’m sure the brand is working to fix. I like the product, they just need to fix the packaging issue some people to seem to have. Supergoop! is one of my fave sunscreen brands so I’m hoping they’ll fix it.
Price and where to buy: $12-$28 at Sephora, Nordstrom, Supergoop.com. etc.
Another thing to note about using sunscreen: it takes about 15 minutes for them to become “active,” none are really water proof or sweat-proof, and you must reapply every 2 hours (and right after sweating or taking a dip in the pool or otherwise getting wet…lol).
This is so helpful! I’ve been on the lookout for a SPF since my current moisturizer has no sun protection and the SuperGoop oil sounds nice. I’ll have to check that one out!
I have the SuperGoop Oil, and I really like it!

woo hoo!
I am a big sunscreen proponent as my Mom had stage 3 melanoma 20 yrs ago when i was a jr in hs. Yes, she is AA and beat it! I have been searching forever for a good sunscreen moisturizer that doesnt have the white cast and I wasnt allergic to. Found one in the drugstore, Cera Ve. These all sound great. I really want to try the sunscreen setting spray. It sounds like a great innovative product.

So sorry to hear about your mom but happy to hear she beat it! I’ve heard that CeraVe has some good stuff—I haven’t tried a ton yet though.
