Wet n Wild launched a cruelty-free makeup brush collection and I got all 17 brushes a few months ago. You can read more about the Wet N Wild Makeup Brush Collection here.
Overall these aren’t bad. I definitely feel different about them now than I did when I first got them—at first I found a few of them to be a little flimsy which affected the amount of control you had with the product you were applying if you weren’t careful. And then I kind of banished them to a corner but when I decided to give them another go I realized that it was only a few of them that were actually troublesome and most are pretty okay.
So the ones that I felt are a little flimsy are the Large Stipple Brush and the Fan Brush. I feel like the bristles can cause the product to fly around if you’re not careful. And I thought perhaps this could be a bit problematic because I see mostly those who are newer to makeup being the most likely group to use these (meaning someone more seasoned with makeup would know how to best manipulate them). But after playing around with them more, I do like them more. These won’t replace any of my long time faves from MAC, It Cosmetics, etc. but for under $3 each, I’m not mad…lol.
My faves/most-used during my trial in no particular order are: Small Stipple Brush, Contour Brush, Powder Brush, Blush Brush, Bent Liner Brush, Large Eyeshadow Brush, Smoky Liner Brush (although mine seems to have walked since I got it), and Angled Liner Brush (this seems to have walked as well…*looks around suspiciously*).
I haven’t had these long enough to determine if the white color will be problematic for keeping these clean. I had no problem getting dark foundation colors out of these using the beautyblender Solid Cleanser, but of course over time that could change. The handles of the brushes though definitely have makeup smudges all over them but those wiped clean. In my stash the handles would need to be wiped clean pretty often because smudges will get on them all the time.
Bottom line: the Wet N Wild Makeup Brush Collection is pretty decent especially given the prices. There’s a few duds but overall, not bad. These won’t replace any of my long-time favorites but I think these are okay for those wanting to try different brush types without breaking the bank, travel (I’ve lost makeup bags enough to want to have pocket-friendly makeup with me when I travel…lol), and if you want backups of brush types in your stash. I do think there are a lot of other “affordable” makeup brush brands like Eco Tools, e.l.f., and Sonia Kashuk (I’m naming ones I’ve actually tried—of course there’s more out there) that are better in quality but may not be cruelty-free.
Price and where to buy: under $3 each and available at wetnwildbeauty.com. Click here for in-store locations that carry the brand.
