I say this all the time but I LOVE this time of year: the shopping, the parties, everyone’s so much nicer, and not to mention all the opportunities to get all dolled up. As part of the Burlington Style Squadâ„¢ I was tasked with what at first felt like a challenge: shop the store for a holiday party outfit for me AND a gift for my BFF ALL for under $100. Now I’ve been rolling with the squad for the last six months so I fully know all about the deals and steals found at Burlington, but somehow this seemed particularly challenging to me. Would I be able to get it all while staying under $100? Let’s see…
So I hit my local Burlington in Queens (it was super packed—but of course it was—everyone knows it’s a not-so-hidden gem for both everyday and holiday shopping) and was in search of something that was totally “me.” After cruising down the aisles with my shopping cart (listen, those things come in handy), I found the cutest hunter green velvet dress. It was perfect for my body type, coloring, and style and just needed a few accessories to make it perfect. Then after a stroll down the shoe aisle I found the cutest glittery pumps. I also found the perfect bag and there were SO many jewelry options in the accessories aisle. My outfit was pretty much complete—I knew I could jazz it up with stuff I already have in my closet—so I went to look for a gift for my BFF.
Within seconds I found the perfect gift for Nas: a faux fur vest. It’s perfect because it can go with so much and I know she’s been looking for a good one and it TOTALLY fits the bill. Then while I was checking out I also found the cutest planner so I got that for her as well. Burlington also has gift bags and accessories at checkout so it’s seriously one-stop shopping.
My grand total? $87.71! That’s after I used my 10% coupon I got last month for donating a coat to the Warm Coats and Warm Hearts Drive. And also includes a bottle of water I got at checkout—shopping makes me thirsty…lol.
Dress: $29.99 (compare at $59.00)
Shoes: $29.99 (compare at $59.00)
Bag: $9.99 (compare at $26.00)
Faux fur vest: $19.99 (compare at $39.99)
Planner: $4.99 (compare at $10.00)
You can find similar items at your Burlington along with awesome gift ideas as well.
Quick Holiday Style Tips:
So because the holidays can feel like you need to pile on the sequins and the red and green and what not—it’s easy to get carried away. My tip is to stay true to your personal style and what works best for your body type. It’s really the key to looking your best—I have tons of posts on dressing for your body type that you can read here.
Another tip: get festive but don’t go overboard. I knew I wanted some elements of holiday because DUH—it’s holiday! Pairing a glittery bag AND glittery shoes AND a statement belt could have gone WAY left, but I kept my dress simple and then softened it all with a fluffy white faux fur coat (side note: if you love faux fur, there’s TONS of it at Burlington).
So Nas and I are going out for holiday dinner to have great good, good drinks, and plenty of eye candy…lol. It’s like SO many gifts in one and of course a fun night to get all dressed up for :)
