I’m certainly not a product snob—if it works well I don’t care if it came from the drugstore or the department store. Sometimes there are reasons why I’d chose a department store product—certain ingredients can tend to be more costly and also some new technologies and product types aren’t available on the drugstore level right away. BUT there are also department store products out there that I feel are pricy just for the name and/or packaging and you can get something similar at a lower price point.

Because I’m able to touch and sample product AND get on-the-spot opinions, I do prefer to buy my skincare products from Sephora. But I also go in armed with already knowing a lot about the skincare concern I’m looking to treat as well as the products I’m considering. I also sometimes write about skincare for a living (among many things…lol) so I also often get info about new products, procedures, and information.

For those fairly new to the subject, part of having a skincare regimen is knowing your skin type and what your concerns are and then looking into products/procedures that address your skin type and concerns. I have TONS of skincare posts you should read through to have a better understanding. Just reading one of my routine posts may not help and might actually confuse you more if you need the skincare background info. When you have time go through my skincare archives. There are SO many posts that will give you a better understanding.

But let’s get into the topic at hand: L’Oreal Miracle Blur vs Murad Invisiblur.

I LOOOOVE Murad Invisiblur. L-O-V-E. You can see my review and subsequent posts here. It makes an AMAZING base when used with Cover FX Custom Cover Drops, makes the skin look amazing when used after your moisturizer, and works well as a makeup primer PLUS it has SPF.

L’Oreal recently sent over a few of their Miracle Blur products. I talk about Murad Invisiblur so often that I wanted to see if there was a lower-priced alternative for those of you who aren’t willing to fork over $65 for Invisiblur.

Both are products that visibly blur imperfections making skin look more flawless. But of course there are differences—ingredients, technologies used to make the product, etc. Here are my thoughts on each:

L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother Broad Spectrum SPF30 (Original):

This is the L’Oreal Miracle Blur product closest in function to Murad Invisiblur (in terms of it having the blurring properties + SPF). I do find that the product feels a little thick in comparison to Murad Invisiblur and it can tend to leave a white-ish cast on my deeper skin tone (it thankfully seems to disappear after some time though). It does the job of blurring imperfections and acting as a makeup primer with SPF but I’m not in love with it. The white-ish cast might not be an issue if you have lighter skin but I personally don’t have the time to wait for it to settle.

L’Oreal Revitalift Miracle Blur Instant Skin Smoother (Oil Free):

This is more like Murad Invisiblur in texture, feel, and performance, but it doesn’t have SPF. I’m guessing the invisible technology Murad says they use to make Invisiblur is too costly to reproduce on the drugstore level—or at least maybe for now. That’s just a guess on my part. I do LOVE the oil-free version—the texture is smoother and it doesn’t leave a white cast on my skin. You’d have to make sure whatever moisturizer you use during the day has SPF in it when using this. OR use a separate SPF as well but that is just TOO much.

I still do prefer Murad Invisiblur though—beyond that is has SPF I like the formula and texture more.

L’Oreal Revitalift Moisture Blur Instant Skin Smoother Moisturizer:

This is a moisturizer that has great blurring properties—it’s lightweight which would make it great for my oily skin in moderate temperatures but would likely not be hydrating enough for winter and possibly couldn’t control my oil in the summer. I’d still need a separate SPF (a mineral sunscreen or even the Miracle Blur with the SPF) to wear with this during the day so this wouldn’t be very practical for me.

RoC Skincare also makes a blurring product called RoC Smooth Perfexion Instant Line Corrector—you can read my review on it here.

Overall, I personally prefer Murad Invisiblur and would just fork over the $65 for it—or at least until a drugstore brand is able to mimic the invisible sunscreen technology used to make Invisiblur. L’Oreal Miracle Blur Oil Free comes the closest to being Invisiblur-ish but of course it doesn’t have the SPF.

I was wondering if you have found another product similar to Invisiblur yet? I’ve just received confirmation from Murad that they will be discontinuing it, though they didn’t have a set date yet. I’ve been using this for years, and am not sure what else to try. Thanks in advance!
