I’ve already posted about Black Opal Eyeshadow Duos before—you can check them out here. But now the brand introduced some more NEUTRAL duos to their collection and I’m here with the lowdown on the breakdown.
For the most part these are pretty good—some shades gave me issues which I’ll note below. The color range is just okay—I wish there were more darker matte options, but these will do I guess. It’s not like I personally need any more shadows but it would be nice if they had more darker matte neutral options.
Pigmentation is overall pretty good with the exception of a few I’ll note below. You’ll need a primer or base with these though if you want them to last long without creasing or fading. I tested these without a primer and overall they max out at like 3-4 hours before you start to see fading. But like I say in all my eyeshadow reviews, I always wear a base or primer with eyeshadows whether department store or drugstore if I want them to last.
Bordeaux Bliss: a shimmery peachy pink and a matte eggplant. The shimmery shade is very pigmented and pretty but the matte is a little hard to work with—you’ll have to layer to get it to show up well.
Creme Brulee: a matte beige and a shimmery bronze. I thought both were pretty amazing as far as pigmentation.
Dusky Glow: a shimmery peachy gold and a shimmery copper. Great pigmentation on both.
Guilty Treat: a very shimmery and pigmented yellow gold and a matte brown with golden sparkle. The brown shade is a little hard to work with but if you spritz your makeup brush with something like a MAC Fix+ or similar makeup spray (or alternatively use a little water) it goes on easier and much better.
Idyllic Desire: a shimmery pink rose with gold shimmer and a shimmery taupe. These are okay on the pigmentation but you might want to also use these wet to intensify the finish.
Naked Bronze: a satin taupey brown-ish color and a satin carnation pink. Both go on a little sheer but are nicer once layered and are definitely better with a base.
Ooh La La: a shimmery champagne and a taupey satin. The taupey shade was a little hard to work with—works better used wet.
Peach Cafe: a matte deep black brown and a shimmery peachy gold. The matte shade is really pigmented but the shimmery shade can use a little help via using a makeup spray or water like I mentioned above.
Tawny Tease: a shimmery bronzy gold and a matte reddish brown. These are really good pigment-wise.

Bottom line: The new neutral Black Opal Eyeshadow Duos are nice—whether you need one or not is obviously going to depend on your color preferences. But overall I think if you got one or two duos you’d like them if the colors suit your style.
Price and where to buy: About $6.95 for each duo at select drugstores nationwide and online at blackopalbeauty.com. Find in-store locations near you here.
I’m a little salty about the quality of Bordeaux Bliss. I really like that one the most. The others look really pretty too though. I just may try one just to see what they’re like
