I’ve always been a picky fragrance person. It would take me FOREVER to find a scent I loved and even when I found some, I’d be over them after a month or so. It takes a pretty complex scent to keep my attention and more often than not there’s a higher price tag involved. But perfume to me is more about a lifestyle (if you will…lol) where my fragrance is an extension of my personality. And right now Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 (received from the brand for review consideration) is SO me.
Floral notes may be very popular among the masses, but I’m in the minority of those who just aren’t into them. Though Maison Francis Kurkdjian Baccarat Rouge 540 has floral notes, it’s the mix of woods and amber that totally make it completely for me.

This is my second Maison Francis Kurkdjian fragrance trial and we’re already at 2 for 2! I spritz on Baccarat Rouge 540 and instantly I feel upgraded—like I could have on an old tee and cargo shorts and you COULDN’T TELL ME I wasn’t wearing couture. It’s an amazing blend of floral and woody which is perfect for a life-long floral opponent quite like myself. I imagine Dominique Deveraux on Dynasty would love a fragrance like this—which is who I secretly (but not so secretly) pretend I am when I wear this.
As expected with a fragrance of this caliber, it will last throughout the entire day. In fact on me it became even greater the longer it wore on.
It does come at a pretty price tag and if you’re looking to dabble in the world of high-end perfumes, here’s what I do: I’ll go to a fragrance counter and experience it first through a scent card. I’ll go about my business (likely looking at bags and makeup) and if I like how the scent smells after it dries down, then I put some on my pulse points and also try to get a little on my clothing (like a scarf—that way I can have the scent for at least a week or so while I decide). Then there’s always samples. I even get samples of scents I own in full sizes because they’re great for my travel beauty bag.
I’m no beauty snob, but there is truly nothing like an amazing high end fragrance that speaks to you and your senses. Baccarat Rouge 540 ranks high among the fragrances I’ve tried and will be in heavy rotation through summer.
