I received the new Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops way back when they first launched about a few months ago. I was excited about them upon arrival and even started testing them out right away. But then life got in the way: I had an event in Atlanta, I started a Summer Beauty video series, my nephew came to visit for three weeks (ahhhh, I miss him!) and I played auntie taking almost everywhere he wanted to go, then I gallivanted around Europe for almost three weeks, came back home for a short week, then flew to Georgia for a family wedding. AND IT’S SUMMER so I, of course, want to make sure I’m maximizing the heck out of it. So I have been trying to play catch-up with so many things for months.

So when I first got these, I was told to mix them in my favorite foundation, moisturizer, whatever to make it more glistening and highlighter-y. So I did. But then I wasn’t really seeing all the gilded-ness I wanted to so I was told to add even more drops. I did. Still wasn’t GOLD like that Austin Powers character. Or BeyoncĂ© in the 1+1 video. So I kinda put them to the side for a bit. Then one day I was minding my own business and was like “hey, WAIT A MINUTE…” I opened up one of the drops and just put the product directly on my skin and guess what? G-L-I-S-T-E-N-I-N-G!!! These work best on their lonesome (haha—remember that phrase?) IMO. Benefit had a liquid highlighter that I LOVED back in the day (think it was called Hollywood Glow) that this reminds me of.

In my defense I was SO used to the Cover FX Custom Cover Drops being concentrated and needing to be mixed with something that it hadn’t dawned on me immediately to use the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops on their own. Thankfully I did because I almost wrote these off. Now I mean, you could OF COURSE still mix these in with your foundation, your moisturizer, your whatever if you want to add some luminosity to the product, but if you’re trying to be all glowy and dewy and what not, a single drop is plenty to make the tops of your cheekbones pop and add another one for larger areas like your shoulders and decolletage. I now really, really love these BUT being that I am the kind of makeup junkie that I am, I already have 324,566,778 products that can give me a similar look (but the Cover FX Custom Enhancer Drops are definitely cooler and more fun to play around with).

I didn’t bother trying the two bronzer shades: Sunset and Sunkissed, because see, the way my melanin is set up…lol. But the other four highlighter shades all look amazing on dark skin—deciding which one you need (if you only have room for just one) would be more of a personal preference. They all pop beautifully.

Sunkissed: light sunkissed bronze
Sunset: deep sunkissed bronze
Moonlight: shimmering beige
Sunlight: soft, glowing gold
Celestial: glistening pearl
Candlelight: shimmering golden bronze

I took pictures with these on my cheeks but because of lighting and my camera, they all looked pretty similar as you can see below. There is definitely a marked difference in the shades when you look at them in person.

Bottom line: If you’re looking for a gorgeous, long-lasting, concentrated liquid highlighter (and it’s within your price range), give these a whirl. You can try them out and get a sample at Sephora.

Price and where to buy: $42 each at Sephora (plus 4% cash back when you use eBates) and at coverfx.com.

Candelight and Moonlight are gorgeous. I saw these in Sephora recently, but the one I wanted was out of stock, but I have to get one when I can find them!!

They seem to sell out pretty quickly once they’re in stock from what I hear!
