Good news to fans of Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation: the 300 shade series (aka the Black girl shades) are baaaaaack as of September 1st! The brand’s PR recently reached out to tell me the amazing news and sent over shades 301, 302, and 303.
So here’s the thing about this foundation: if you have oily skin, don’t let the “moisture” part scare you. I also assumed back when I first tried this that it wouldn’t work out for me because my oily behind typically can’t wear foundations that are “moisturizing,” but this one is all fancy and technical and stuff. Read for yourself…
A cream mineral makeup foundation that applies like a liquid encapsulated with 60% water to give superior coverage for natural-looking skin. Advanced Japanese technology and a meticulous production process 3 times the length of ordinary foundation craft a formula like none other. The result is a pore-diminishing, flaw-concealing beauty essential that is completely gentle to skin. Not one but two types of light reflecting powder particles work in harmony to perfect the skin’s look. A flat shaped powder erases shadows due to uneven surfaces while a round shaped powder minimizes tiny pores and indentations. Precisely formulated with finely milled 100% mineral pigments to enhance a beautiful healthy skin tone that captures equally well on film and with the naked eye. Does not damage skin even after long hours of wear. The 300 series is also a favorite on film and TV sets.
I reviewed this already so make sure you check out my previous review with pictures here.
Kelly Rowland is among many celebrity fans of this foundation and if that chocolate goddess likes something, we definitely have to pay attention.
Only thing is while 301, 302, and 303 can cover a good range of darker skin tones, it’s still pretty limiting so not everyone is going to find a match. It’s a nice formula though if you can get a good match—my closest match was 303 (see pics of me wearing it here) and it worked out well though I could use a teeny drop of NYX Pro Foundation Mixer in Warmth to make it even better depending on where I am with a tan or not.
I’m currently waiting to get official shade descriptions from the brand otherwise I’ll edit the post with my own descriptions. I swatched Cover FX N110 (neutral undertones) and P110 (pink/red undertones) so you can see how they differ from 303 (see swatches of the newest Cover FX deeper shades). You can also see other foundation swatches and reviews here. (I couldn’t do swatch comparisons for other shades because I wind up giving away extra makeup that brands send me for review, but you can compare from the pictures in the previous posts). Also check out this post where I swatched the foundations I have in my stash.
For reference Cover FX N110 is a great match for me and then I sometimes use P110 when I tan and get warmer in undertone.

Price and where to buy: $62 at KohGenDo.com—from now until September 29, 2016, if you buy any foundation from the 300 series, you’ll get a signature Foundation Brush ($30 value) complimentary. Go here for details. Sephora still sells Koh Gen Do Moisture Foundation, but doesn’t look like the 300 series is back yet.
Hey Girl they never left. If you called their 1-800 # you could buy those shades at a 50% discount. They never discontinued them because apparently they are used on Kerri Washington on the Scandal set. It kinda sucks they are full price now:( but hopefully Sephora will carry them soon!
