More #NewSkinNovember! And there’s even MORE coming, too—make sure you SUBSCRIBE to the blog so you don’t miss a thing, honey.

As we enter into the colder months many things can happen to our skin. One of the more common things is that it may be drier than it is the rest of the year—which is why things like the moisturizer switch-up are super important. Another thing, the skin’s self-renewal process (it does this while we sleep—hence the phrase “beauty sleep”) tends to slow down. And that slow down can cause a buildup of dead skin cells on the skin that can block your shine and make the skin look a little (or a lot) dull. This is where exfoliating treatments can help by acting as the skin’s right hand man and assisting with shedding those extra dead skin cells on the surface. Exfoliating treatments can be physical (i.e. scrubs, devices like microblading machines, etc.) or chemical (i.e. glycolic acid, lactic acid, salicylic acid, etc.).

Exfoliation is important year-round of course. Not exfoliating regularly can lead to dull skin at any time of year but also can lead to breakouts and can also lead to your skincare products not working as effectively. Whichever exfoliator you choose, make sure you READ THE DIRECTIONS to ensure you’re using it properly. You don’t want to over-exfoliate—you could burn and/or irritate the skin and from there you could end up with scarring and/or dark spots. Not to mention if you cut or burn your skin from over-exfoliating, you could cause an infection. OUCH.

I’ve tried a number of exfoliating treatments over the years, you can scan my Skincare Product Reviews section as well as my What I’m Using on My Skin Right Now section to see more examples.

A few months ago I attended a press event for the launch of Ole Henriksen Power Bright where I got to meet the Danish skincare maven himself. At the time I didn’t need a brightening treatment—and right now I still don’t really “need” it (maybe I’ll need it later on), but for #NewSkinNovember I wanted to do some skincare demo videos for you guys and thought this treatment was interesting to show you. Now of course as with all skincare products, individual results will vary. Some might see immediate and drastic results after just one treatment. I’m not in dire need of brightening so you won’t see a dramatic difference on me. But in doing these demos I hope to help you in the decision process with introducing products and treatments in your skincare regimen.
