TSABD at Home: I’m Spring Cleaning!

target threshold plants home decor

Remember how I told you I’d be blogging differently this year? I’m loving the type of content I’m able to provide for you guys but like I mentioned in my changes post, it does take longer to put posts up than it did before. Plus this year I’m taking steps to getting my entire life in order–namely redoing my apartment bit by bit on a budget. Over the next week or so, I’ll be purging, accessing what can be repaired or needs to be replaced, and figuring out a recurring plan to keep my life clutter-free and minimal.

I can’t even really say that I’m a hoarder—I don’t have an emotional attachment to these things. In fact I’ve been finding it quite easy to get rid of stuff. It’s just that I’m not doing it often enough. I read somewhere a while back that although I’m a Virgo which is characterized with being neat and in order (which I am—somewhat) that I might find some situations where I’m unable to get things the exact way I want them and will oddly do nothing to change it. It’s like I feel like I can’t get it the way I want it, so I won’t do it at all. VERY counterproductive but I think I can totally see how that happens with me.

Plus I’m a pretty busy person. Freelancing/blogging full time seems glamorous to some, but I’ve worked harder working for myself than I ever have at any company. I’ve learned to chill and now have a much better work-life balance, but if I’m focused on getting work done (if I don’t do work, I don’t get paid) other things go to the wayside which include the way my apartment looks :x

And let me tell you, nothing gets you more in line with spending than doing a purge. I was blowing money fast in my 20s and racking up credit card debt on “things” and had a closet overflowing with clothes. When I did my first big purge back then it helped me realize I didn’t need as much clothes as I thought I did. When you sift through all the things you’ve bought, you tend to get pretty mad and it can help curb your spending. I’m someone who loves to have a minimal wardrobe—only things I really LOVE and want to wear over and over. Sure, I buy new things here and there but NOTHING like what I used to do. But if you ever want to slow down your spending, do a purge of your makeup stash and your closet. You’ll wisen up very quickly…lol.

Plus it’s SO much easier to get dressed when you have fewer things that you really love.

Basically my face after I purge…lol.

I definitely need a system setup though when it comes to keeping things organized and tidy. I get products in pretty often from brands and one thing that was a bad habit of mine was I would wait until the end of the week to open everything up. I’d have like 10+ boxes of things. Then I’d get overwhelmed or my no attention span having self would move onto something else. Meanwhile there would be boxes and product everywhere. I now open things as I get them and break down the boxes immediately. I also sort things immediately now: things I will review soon, things I might review in the future, things I donate to charity, things I send to family, and things I’ll give to readers.

I also need to get in line with a cleaning schedule. I started a spring cleaning Pinterest board (follow me—I also pin inspo for home decor, fashion, makeup, and food) so I can have some guides available. I’ve started to adopt a “there’s a place for everything and everything in its place” routine so things don’t pile up on me like they have in the past. I have a VERY busy mind—it’s not uncommon for me to start drafting a blog post then five minutes in decide I want to photograph product then ten minutes into that decide I want to sort the laundry then organize my beauty drawers—mind you, I’ve started like ten tasks and have completed none…lol (I do get it together to get my work done though). Something as simple as hanging my coat up when I get in instead of leaving it on the table (I have a number of coats—I can wind up having a coat pile up by the end of the week if I do this).

And because I’m not trying to stress myself out because I’m also juggling quite a few life goals (staying at a healthy weight, eating right, getting regular exercise, running my own business and starting other business lines, thinking of my future, etc.), I’m taking this steps at a time. Last thing I need is my blood pressure to be all high because I’m over here trying to be my own Stepford wife…lol.

So if posting is scarce from me over the next week or so, it’s because I’m knee deep in paint decisions and purging…lol. There’s also more Law & Order SVU I need to binge watch.

I feel you on all of this. I’m a Virgo too – which means I’m a neat freak on the surface, but messy in places unseen to the naked eye. I started spring cleaning a few weeks ago, I think I’m in the mood to purge more this weekend.

OMG—neat freak on the surface but messy in places unseen to the naked eye is me! You’re my Virgo cousin…lol.

I’ve been on a roll this week though. I can only do a little bit at a time before my back and knees start hurting me but I’ve made a lot of progress. And yup—I have to be in the mood to do things, too. You sound just like me…lol.
