Hey folks, what's happening? How's your summer been going? I typically use the summer to lean back and not post as much as I typically do throughout the year—you know, try to use the time to go out and relax as well as get a ton of business-related work done. Coming up I have my beauty event at Space NK this Saturday (woo hoo!) and then next week is my birthday and I'm heading to Miami with my homey Trina from The Baby Shopaholic. I envision a ton of grownup shenanigans going down and I'll have a recap so stay tuned…lol.
My homey Nas (of Nasilele Photography) has been out of town so I haven't been able to do any filming for a bit. We did get some things filmed before she left and thankfully I have some new lip colors to show you today.
I also have some more NEW makeup that came in to show you when I get back AND tons of NEW content for fall so STAY TUNED.
But now, let's get into these L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipsticks and Matte Lip Liners.
L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipstick
*Press samples sent for review consideration.
Official description:
Take it to the matte with 16 new gorgeous L'Oréal Matte Lipstick shades! Indulge in richness beyond compare with our most luxuriously rich matte lipcolor and intensely rich hydration. With this L'Oréal matte lipstick your lips are kept soft and smooth with a creamy feel. With a spectrum of gorgeous shades from bold to nearly nude, Colour Riche® Matte Lipstick offers a shade that’s perfect for every look and any occasion.
Apply starting in the center of your upper lip. Work from the center to outer edges of your lips, following the contour of your mouth. For a bolder look, prime and line lips first with Colour Riche Matte Lip Liner—fill in lips entire with the lip liner, then apply Colour Riche Matte Lipstick on top.
So these are VERY comfy on the lips and they do exactly what L'Oreal says they'll do. I just don't love them. That's not to say there's something wrong with these lipsticks and that you shouldn't try them, they're just not my style. While I appreciate that these don't smell like the infamous plastic-y drugstore lip color smell, I also don't love the scent. It gives me Play-Doh vibes. I'm also not a fan of the color selection—again another personal style thing. They're not terrible colors, but they're just not colors I go crazy over (I do only have 7 of the 16 shades). I like when colors have more depth to them—these seem a bit flat which I see happen pretty often on the drugstore level when it comes to mattes. Check out my review on the new L'Oreal Infallible Lip Paints Metallics though—now THAT is some gorgeous depth of color (it does have the metallic finish to help it though…lol).
I'm also not a fan of the finish—these are a creamy matte but a little more on the creamier side (this isn't a bad thing by the way, just not something *I* like). I prefer if I'm wearing a matte for it to be less creamy for longer wear—BUT these aren't touted as a long-wear lipstick so no fault on L'Oreal here.
Wear on these will depend on how much (and what) you eat and drink but again, L'Oreal isn't claiming these are long-wear so no lies told. I did get a decent amount of wear though when testing these—going on six hours with tons of snacking and drinking, I just had some minor wear on my inner lips but overall the color was still holding on strong. I of course would have needed to touch-up but for testing of wear purposes, I let it be.
You'll also get a little more wear out of the deeper colors since those tend to leave a little stain on the lips (this is pretty common with most lip colors I've tried).
Bottom line: I know I just broke down all the reasons why I don't like L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lipstick (lol) but it's not a bad lip color if these are your style.

L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lip Liner
But these L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lip Liners though?!?! BOMB.COM.
Official description:
Colour Riche® Matte Lip Liners create definition to give a plumped appearance while enhancing your creamy matte lip color. With our wide range of shades from nudes to bolds, you can find a matte lip liner to pair perfectly with any Colour Riche Matte Lipcolour. This matte lip pencil can be sharpened with the L’Oréal Paris Dual Sharpener.
Prime and line lips with lip liner. Fill in to wear alone, or apply Colour Riche Matte Lipstick to complete the look. Fill in and apply Colour Riche Matte Lipstick on top for an even bolder look. Lip liner can be sharpened with the L'Oréal Paris Dual Sharpener.
I really loved these because there really needs to be more lip pencil color variety on the drugstore level (yes, NYX has lip pencils but NYX doesn't have the kind of availability like L'Oreal has—and yes, L'Oreal does own NYX—you know what I'm saying…lol). When I was working with Walgreens to produce some videos earlier this year, I was looking for a drugstore lip pencil to go with the L'Oreal Infallible Lip Paints (they're awesome, btw—check out my review here) but couldn't find any that went beyond your basic red, brown, or pink. I was like HOW does L'Oreal have these super amazing Infallible Lip Paints that come in all these gorgeous colors and then these super bland lip pencils?!?! Welp, they came through with these.
They're matte and super creamy (be careful you don't leave them out for them to get hot and softer–the tip might break off and you'll have to resharpen) and though the shade range is not as extensive as a brand like say MAC or Make Up For Ever, they're showing out a little bit with these eight shades. I do dare L'Oreal to come out with some lip liner shades that match some of the bolder colors in the Infallible Paints line.
Bottom line: L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Lip Liners are super creamy and the shade range though not super extensive is pretty nice for a widely available drugstore brand. I love the creamy formula because you can line your lips and fill them in without poking yourself. Just be careful because that creaminess could turn into breakage.
