TSABD Around Town: BKLYN BLEND

So another idea for a series has been birthed! Well, at least something I’m trying out for now. I wanted to combine a way to do outfit posts and highlight cool businesses in NYC so here we are. First up: BKLYN BLEND.

BKLYN BLEND, located at 194 Tompkins Ave in Brooklyn, is a place where you can enjoy fresh gourmet food and drink in a casual and welcoming community setting. Committed to providing healthy options to inner-city families for healthy eating, BKLYN BLEND is a minority family-owned business by Ralph Warren, Keishon Warren, Ali Coutard, and Ed Cooper. I was also happy to find out that the owners are from Trinidad just like my family. #wheremypeople

Another thing I’ve learned and love about BKLYN BLEND is that the owners used their life savings to personally design and construct a comfortable environment with reclaimed wood and materials sourced from various parts of Brooklyn including the Coney Island boardwalk, old water tanks, and demolished buildings in neighboring Bedstuy.

My friend Nas (of Nasilele Photography) lives in the area and loves BKLYN BLEND for its shakes namely the Brownsville Nut and the Fulton Street and is the one who suggested we shoot near the shop. I honestly had plans of just doing a quick guerilla-style lifestyle-looking shoot there, but we wound up chatting up the owners and staff and taking additional pictures. I had a cappuccino, but plan to try out more next time I’m in the area. I LOVE the look and quaint feel inside BKLYN BLEND—it’s a nice place to kick back with your laptop and get some work done while you continuously order from the pretty extensive menu (I hear the Park Slope salmon sandwich, The 4 Train juice blend, and the Fulton Street shake are among the most popular items).
