I LOVE a good sweatsuit—especially one that is somewhat fitted and covers my limbs. I like to shop sweats from the men’s section because at 5’9″ I need that wrist and ankle coverage. Plus these days a lot of men’s clothing is more on the tapered side making it prime for our taking…lol.
So the key to buying from the men’s section is to look at the size charts and compare your measurements. If you’re shopping at some of the European-based retailers, your size in men’s might be similar to your size in women’s (i.e. if you wear a medium in women’s, you might also need a medium in men’s and if you’re very petite—shop the boys’ section). Check the size charts though because there aren’t any universal sizing in clothing and sizes can vary by retailer. It also depends on the item—if it’s something like an oversized coat, you might have to size down. When in doubt, buy two sizes and return what doesn’t fit or if you’re closeby, try it on in the store. When it comes to shoes, women’s sizes are about 1.5 sizes smaller than men’s (i.e. a women’s size 8 is about a men’s 6.5) and of course some styles fit differently, so try it on or buy two sizes and return what doesn’t fit if buying online.
I love sweats because you can elevate them with heels or even pair them with your dressier pieces for an unexpected look. For example, I love the idea of form-fitting joggers with a dressy top (ohhhh imagine sequins!) paired with ankle boots. Or a sweatshirt paired with a lace skirt and heels. Ohhhh I just thought of a leather skirt I have in my closet that I can pair with a sweatshirt—you might see that in a future outfit post…lol. So many combos. And then of course you can just go super casual and rock them with sneakers. Get more inspo from my Sweats Pinterest board below, and don’t forget to click below to follow me!
