No lie, when Ugg boots were finding their way onto celebrities and eventually becoming the fashion look at Any Mall, USA in the early 00s, I was NOT trying to have what looked like the bottom of elephant feet on my own feet. No ma’am. Also, people were wearing them with jean shorts and I was just SO confused. So I avoided them like the plague until one time in like 2005 or so, it was like the coldest winter EVER (shout-out to Sister Souljah) in NYC and no matter how many layers of socks I put on, my feet were just frozen. A coworker of mine who was around my age told me I needed to try Uggs because they would keep my feet warm. So I begrudgingly waltzed into a Soho store that sold the goods and tried them on. Ya’ll, as soon as those Ugg boots touched my feet I could hear angels singing, birds were suddenly chirping, my sinuses felt like they cleared, my vision was even sharper, and most importantly, my feet were WARM AF.
Back then I bought the classic short boot but was so pleased with how warm they kept my feet (no socks necessary) that later that year I put my coins together to buy my mom a pair for Christmas. You know how people say when they get money they’re buying their mama a house? Well, mine was a very, VERY mini version of that (my coins weren’t stacked that high…lol) where I wanted my momma’s feet to never be cold again. Over the years I’ve since bought maybe like four pairs total and thought I was cool until we started having polar vortexes. WHAT A BUM-BUM. I needed something way better AND waterproof (that feeling when you fall into a snow pile and you’re wearing the short classic Uggs? Fire pon DAT). So about three years ago I bought a pair of the Adirondack tall boots and let me tell you, my feet haven’t been cold since like 2014…lol. These things are WARM to the infinity power. Like in many ways they’re TOO WARM because I feel like I can only wear them when the temperature is below freezing. Even if it’s 32 degrees on the dot, I feel like they get too warm for me after a while, but they were perfect for me when I went to Iceland and was out all day doing things like visiting glaciers. But funny enough, when we were just kicking it in the city areas of Reykjavik, I had to take them off and switch into regular combat boots because they were too warm…lol.
These boots were a great purchase and even three years in, they’re still going strong. I probably have at least another 5 years maybe even more with them as long as my feet don’t rip up the sheepskin. Ugg over the years has come out with some really cute styles as well. My next purchase will be a cute pair of waterproof combat boots that aren’t too heavily lined with sheepskin. I need something for days when it’s not so cold but I also don’t want to be splashing around in puddles and getting my feet wet—you know like last week when it snowed here in NYC and then it was in the 40s soon after and all the snow was melting. Those boots don’t even have to be Ugg. I just need a really good durable pair of stylish combat boots that are waterproof and will keep my eye out when I’m shopping around.
