I’ve always been annoyed with the lack of shade range when it comes to tinted moisturizers and lightweight complexion products (like BB and CC creams, but also very light foundations). I created a series around ones that come in deeper shades (check it out here) and am SO happy that I can include EveryHue Beauty Tinted Moisturizer to that list!
EveryHue Beauty, created by #FourWomenForWomen, offers tinted moisturizers in 12 wearable shades, with an emphasis on warmer hues, and an array of makeup tools to help achieve a perfect application. For those Real Housewives of Potomac fans, you might recognize one of the founders, Gizelle Bryant.
Now because EveryHue Beauty is not yet at any of my local Target stores, I had to order it online. I’m hoping that Target works with the brands to make it much easier to figure out shades when ordering online. After a couple of minutes of trying to find swatches and looking for images of people wearing the shades, I decided on Java, but it’s a bit too dark and too red for me. I still tested it though because I was impressed with the coverage (it’s a tinted moisturizer but provides medium coverage and a gorgeous skin-like finish).
Most tinted moisturizers do tend to have very light coverage which requires you to not have much you want to cover in order for it to work out well. I like that this one is medium coverage because it helped even out my complexion and helped to make a few dark spots look less apparent. I still needed concealer for my under eye area and could have used some to completely cover the dark spots, but I let them cook.
Performance was amazing—it held up well even in the heat, even on my oily skin, and even while I was running errands. Though the shade was off, it wasn’t ghastly off (it just looked like I got a tan). I will try again to see if I can find a better match (I’m thinking Amaretto will match but there is only a computerized swatch of it on the Target site) but will probably wait until it’s in stores so I don’t have to wind up returning again.
Lightweight complexion products like tinted moisturizers are more flexible within the shade range so one shade may match a number of people. In other words, you may not need an exact match for it to work. But in my case, I can use something a little lighter and less red than Java.
UPDATE: There’s a conversion chart on the EveryHue site that includes the shade names along with the numbered shades. Check it out below to help you figure out your shade. Note: if you can’t see the chart below, click here to see it on the EveryHue site (you may need to also click on “view conversion chart” as well.
Cacao was sent to me by Target’s PR as I asked to see the deepest shades so I could see how deep the new shades go. I bought Java.

Bottom line: if you’re looking for a medium coverage tinted moisturizer that comes in shades for our darker skin tones, I definitely think you should take a look at these. Finding the right shade might not be a smooth process for everyone, but I think the product is worth it especially if you love tinted moisturizers. Target has a pretty flexible return policy, so if you wind up with the wrong shade, get to Target within the return period.
Price and where to buy: $18.99 each at Target.com. In select stores soon—you can use the Target site to find out if it’ll be sold at a store near you.
