One of my favorite things is when I’m shopping and unexpectedly score something great. Especially when thrifting—it’s like an adult Easter egg hunt! I recently shopped at two Savers® locations on Long Island (West Hempstead and Commack)—you might have one near you as they have locations across the country, but it may be known as Value Village or Unique Thrift in your neck of the woods. You’ll never guess what I got! (If you couldn’t tell already, I’m completely giddy over it…lol)
So if you’ve never been to a Savers®/Value Village™/Unique Thrift, they are a chain of retail stores that offer really great deals on amazing finds. Some of these stores are huuuuuge so make sure you have on comfy shoes and are hydrated because you might be browsing for a minute. Beyond on-season clothing finds like jeans, shorts, tanks, and jackets, they also have a selection of household items (decor, electronics, sever wear, etc.), and entertainment like books, vintage records (I was this close to buying Busta Rhymes and George Michael records but then realized I don’t have a record player…lol), and CDs. They have over 100,000 items on the sales floor including designer labels and name brand clothing. New shipments come in everyday so no one trip is the same. AND most items are under $7.
As I browsed I kept an open and creative mind. I looked at items I found as functioning beyond their obvious function. So for instance I saw serving trays that would be awesome on a vanity to hold jewelry, mugs that could be used to store makeup brushes, and all sorts of cute jars that you can use for quite a number of things.
I first spotted this silver dish which may have been a sugar dish in its past life. In its life with me though it’s going to hold either some bobby pins or cotton pads. Super chic and just $3.49.
Then I was super hyped to find this “big brown mug” mug because I WAS JUST LOOKING AT IT ON THE BLOOMINGDALES SITE. (haha—sorry for yelling—I told you I was hyped). I may get another one from the Bloomie’s site anyway as this one would be cool to hold makeup brushes or eye/lip pencils. I got it for $1.49 at Savers®.
I also picked up these scarves ($1.99 and $2.99) because I LOVE bold prints and brightly colored materials—I’m always picking up similar ones at Zara for close to $20 to use as turbans so these were major steals. I didn’t realize one was an infinity scarf until I got home, but that’s nothing a pair of scissors can’t fix.
And then the thing I’m the most hyped about? THIS GUCCI WATCH! It was like a hidden gem—I was looking through the watch display browsing through a ton of watches and then there it was in all its red and green glory. I sprinted to find someone to get it for me and she held it at the register since I had more browsing to do. After like ten minutes I was nervous someone else would sneak and buy it, so I just got on line and bought it and went back to shop…lol. I LOOOOOVE. $30.
Aside from the thrill of the hunt, you’re also being kind to the environment when you shop at Savers®/Value Village/Unique Thrift. I’m personally trying to be more conscious of waste, so I make sure I buy clothing I love and can wear over and over, but also by reusing we’re reducing our carbon footprint.
Have you ever shopped at Savers®/Value Village™/Unique Thrift? If not, would you? Tell me in the comments!
So now I want one of you to experience the thrill of the hunt! I’m giving away a $50 Savers® gift card (U.S. residents only). To enter fill out the widget below. I never have such luck at a thrift store. It takes much patience.

Patience and you have to go somewhat regularly. Also good to make friends with the manager so you know when they get new shipments in.
I’m a thrift store ninja! I never leave without something fab.
Wish they had a savers in Philadelphia !
I have shopped at both Savers and Uniques and I like them both. I prefer Uniques over Savers. Being that I have moved the only thing in my area is GW which does not always have good finds.
Down here in GA, it’s Value Village, but I love thrifting. I’ve never come across anything as good as your find, but I love it all the same.
