I have been OBSESSED with side stripes since forever and was happy to see it made a resurgence in fashion this last year or so. I wanted a pair of side stripe wide leg pants for a loooong time and would try a bunch, but nothing that I really loved. I’m tall so I didn’t want high waters. I also didn’t want to pay a gazillion dollars for them, and I also didn’t want something that would show all my business underneath. Zara had a cute pair that I was in the store considering purchasing, but the fitting room line was WAY too long. I stood on line to just buy it and try it on at home but although there were only like two people on line ahead of me, the cashier was taking FOREVER and it gave me enough time to decide to put the pants down…lol. I think those were like $60 or so making my choice to just put them down even easier (not that $60 was bad, but it was $60 on something I didn’t try on and that was from Zara).
I ordered a few online and wound up having to send them back because of fit or I just wasn’t feeling the style. Then one day I decided to go in Forever 21. I hadn’t shopped in Forever 21 regularly since maybe I was 21…lol. There are WAY too many choices in there and I believe the sizing in most of their stuff is junior and although I can fit junior sizes, sometimes the clothes aren’t made as nicely as I want or the lengths are too short for my 5’9″ frame. But on a recent trip to the DMV area with the homies Baby Shopa and Mama Fash (remember them from my LA shopping trip post—check it out here) and we hit Forever 21 and I noticed they have a Contemporary collection (they probably have had this for yeaaaaars but I haven’t been shopping in Forever 21 regularly) that cuts their clothing more for women’s sizes vs junior. And some clothing comes in an XL which is perfect for me right now with the weight gain. For most of my life I would fit into mediums and larges, but I gained just enough weight to not fit into plus and to also not fit into some straight sizes. That XL at Forever 21 (and I’ve noticed some brands at Nordstrom and Zara now also come in XL and XXL) as well as of course my usual shopping places like ASOS and other specialty stores have been my great for me now that I have budget to add a few pieces into my wardrobe in my new size. I also love that now that I’m working to lose the weight, these clothes will only need a few tweaks to still fit properly. Check out my How to Shop When You Lose or Gain Weight video for more info.
I got these pants from the F21+ section and they’re a bit big (size 0X), but thankfully the elastic waist helps. But everything else, the color, the length, the silhouette are perfect for me. And the price? $22.90, boo.
