TSABD Edit: NARS Liquid Lip Collection (Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer + New Powermattes & Velvet Glide Nudes for Dark Skin)

Read ALL about my review process including how I take swatches, photos, and more here.

Hey there fine folks! Welcome to another edition of TSABD Edit! Today we’re going through the new NARS Liquid Lip Collection. NARS recently launched the brand new Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer, new shades of Powermatte Lip Pigment, and new perfect-nudes-for-darker-skin-tones shades in the Velvet Glides. Let’s get into this…

So first, keep in mind throughout this post that “liquid lip” can refer to products that don’t turn matte as well. I think since SO MANY brands have liquid lipsticks that turn matte it’s easy to ONLY think matte when you hear liquid lip, but you’ll see in this post especially that there are different finishes for liquid lips.

NARS Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer

These are limited edition

Official description:

Go to extremes, with the new limited edition Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer. The smooth, creamy formula gives lips intense color and a mirror-like shine. The non-sticky texture glides on smoothly with a comfortable feel and a line-free look. Features vivid pigments that deliver buildable, full coverage color with a reflective finish. The unique two-sided applicator includes a plush side to deposit the ideal amount of color onto lips, and a smooth side to evenly distribute pigments and intensify shine.

Shades Include:
ABRUZZO, metallic rose gold
AT FIRST SIGHT, clear with gold pearl
BADEN BADEN, deep aubergine
CAPE TOWN, metallic gold with pink shimmer
CONQUEST, warm pink
EVERGLADES, black with gold pearl
MISSISSIPPI, deep black cherry
RED DISTRICT, vivid red
SANTO DOMINGO, mauve pink
VALENCIA, bright pink coral

I LOOOOOVE these! If you remember the OCC Lip Tars, these remind me of them. They are VERY pigmented—think of them like a cross between a very opaque lipgloss and a cream with shine lipstick. Or like if a very pigmented cream lipstick with a shiny finish melted and you poured it into a lipgloss container. Some of the lighter shades like Conquest and Valencia can be a little messy to work with at first because they are so pigmented and you might be tempted to apply these like you would a gloss, but I’ve found the best way is to either apply it like NARS suggests above, or to apply some in the center of your lips and then smack your lips together to distribute the color and then using the smooth side of the applicator to define the lips. You could also use a lip pencil to define, but I love the way these look without one. The darker shades and the metallic shades seemed easier to work with in comparison to the lighter colors. In general though I love this product so I’ll just have to be more mindful of how I apply.

I did some lip swatches (as seen in the video below) but keep in mind that since I was using a makeup wipe to clean my lips after each color, the solution on the wipes made it harder for the product to adhere especially in the inner part of my lips. You obviously won’t be swatching the colors back to back on a regular basis so you won’t have to worry about that, but I figured I’d point it out in case the swatches on my lips look wonky…lol.

These wear pretty nicely for glosses since they’re so pigmented. They can get a little messy when you eat so be dainty…lol. I was able to get through a meal and still have my lip color on so they are built to last though NARS doesn’t make any long-term wear claims.

Bottom line: I LOVE the NARS Full Vinyl Lip Lacquer and wish it wasn’t limited edition. But because it is, if you love this type of formula and can see yourself rocking the colors, I’d say get one before they sell out. I do hope NARS decides to keep these around—at least a few of the shades—on a permanent basis.

The custom doe-foot applicator allows for easy precision while the formula provides long lasting, smudge resistant wear. Includes 5 new shades ranging from neutral to bold.

SPIN ME, rich red brown
VAIN, brick red
YOU’RE NO GOOD, dark reddish fuchsia

I’ve already reviewed the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigments (check it out here) so I don’t need to add much of anything here. I’m not wowed by these new shades although I LOVE the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment formula. If you love the shades, then definitely check them out. I have a few faves from the original shade lineup (mostly the reds) and you can see those here.

NARS Velvet Lip Glide

Official description:

Velvet Lip Glide fully coats lips in saturated, satin color with extraordinary comfort. The unique hybrid lip formula provides a luxurious, long-lasting finish without drying or feeling sticky. Delivers an opaque satin finish and long-lasting wear with a high-impact color payoff. A fusion of precious oils create a smooth, moisturizing effect.

I already reviewed the NARS Velvet Lip Glides, so make sure you check out my review here, but these five new shades are to be noted because they make for perfect nudes for deeper skin tones. They all have a nice pinky brown or browny pink color to them (some are deeper than others) and you’d pick the color that is closest to your skin to be your nude, or you can pick something lighter or darker to be a pretty neutral color. I LOVE these new shades and found that all five of them look great on my skin tone.

Shades Include:
MARS, warm brown
PARADISE GARAGE, soft plum
ROSELAND, rose blush
SWING, neutral rose
XENON, dusty mauve
