As I’ve mentioned in my previous skincare posts, my skincare regimen (like most) changes as my skincare needs change and as the seasons change. Lately though because the weather within the seasons has become so unpredictable, sometimes within the same week I might have to switch my daytime SPF moisturizer several times to accommodate for the temperatures.
About two months ago, I was looking for a new regimen to try that spoke to my hormonal skin and that also had retinol in it as my dermatologist suggested. I have oily skin but as we age even those of us with oily skin will notice it gets less oily so we sometimes may need hydration but nothing that’s going to make our skin feel greasy. It took all of like five minutes to find the Murad Resurgence line on sephora.com and read through its description to see that it was perfect for me. I bought a starter kit from the Murad site to try it out and when I saw that I really liked how it worked with my skin, Murad sent over the full-sized line which includes Retinol Youth Renewal Serum, Renewing Cleansing Cream, Age-Balancing Moisture, and Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream. I’ve been using the products in the line together for almost two months and have noticed an amazing change in my skin. My skin feels balanced (perfect amount of hydration without looking like a frying pan), it visibly looks more radiant and smoother, and it doesn’t feel like my skin is stressed because one day it’s 80 degrees then 50 degrees the next then 60 after that.
I’ve had some PMS-related acne pop up so I’ve been incorporating the Murad Acne & Wrinkle Reducer (and sometimes Sunday Riley UFO) to help prevent and the Murad Rapid Relief Acne Spot Treatment to spot treat. For particularly persistent and resistant pimples, I’ll also sometimes use the Peter Thomas Roth Acne Sulfur Masque as a spot treatment. Every now and then I’ll use it as a mask all over to help clear pores.
For cleansing I use the Murad Renewing Cleansing Cream twice daily. When I wear makeup, I use Boscia MakeUP BreakUP Cleansing Oil to remove my makeup and then I follow with the Renewing Cleansing Cream. If I want to make sure I get any traces of makeup from around my hairline, I’ll use the Olay Luminous Micellar Water (loooove that it has a pump). Depending on how often I’ve worn makeup for the week (typically maybe only once or twice since I work from home), I’ll do a deep cleanse with Mario Badescu Glycolic Foaming Cleanser and my Clarisonic.
For moisturizer, I’ve been loving the Olay Luminous Whip Moisturizer with SPF 25 (if you saw me on The Real, this is the moisturizer I talked about in my beauty segment) when the weather is being more consistent. I have found myself needing to vary my daytime SPF moisturizers when the weather tends to dip. At night I use the Murad Retinol Youth Renewal Serum and Retinol Youth Renewal Night Cream along with Drunk Elephant Shaba Complex Eye Serum for my eyes.
For dark spots and the darkness under my eyes that I explained in this video about filler, I’m using a prescription strength compound my dermatologist prescribed. It’s 12% hydroquinone and 6% kojic acid.
I’m happy with my skin and have been loving how it looks since using the Murad Resurgence line. I love that I can still use the products even though it’s been getting warmer out (I do have to switch out the daytime moisturizer when it gets hot though). This line can be pretty expensive (of course that’s relative) so I would suggest trying the trial kit first if this sounds like a line that would work for your skincare needs. Hi Danielle,
I’ve been reading a lot of your skin care posts and a lot of them have worked for me. She nice I have adult acne, sensitive combination oily skin. I’ve been using the Murad line. What do you think of the First aid beauty skin rescue cleanser with red clay? It’s not the charcoal one with the 2% salicylic acid. I’ve learned from you and the dermatologist that for adults it’s good to stay at the 0.5% range. Thanks

Hi Rula!
Thanks so much for reading and so happy you’ve found skincare that works for you!
Is it this one? https://www.sephora.com/product/skin-rescue-deep-cleanser-with-red-clay-P384539?skuId=1567205&om_mmc=ppc-GG_1165716884_53825916380_pla-418036848862_1567205_257731948475_9004428_c&country_switch=us&lang=en&gclid=CJHR5ef21dsCFc3mswodUMcDzg&gclsrc=ds
I haven’t tried that First Aid cleanser in a loooooong time, but I don’t remember it being bad. It’s a deep cleanser though so you’re not going to use it daily—maybe once or twice per week depending on things like if you wear makeup, skin type, time of year, etc.
