Gurl, It’s Fall Fall: Have You Switched Your Moisturizer?

Just a quick and friendly reminder now that it stopped being summer in fall for a second and actual cold weather is coming our way (assuming you’re somewhere that gets distinct seasons), that it might be time to switch out your moisturizer. Keep reading to find out more info on this plus reevaluating your skincare routine when the seasons change.

I LOVED this summer. I tried my best not to complain when it got too hot because I just genuinely enjoyed summer ’18. I had cute clothes, I wasn’t obsessing over my weight, and I just really enjoyed myself and felt amazing. I actually didn’t want summer to end.

But then omg SUMMER WOULDN’T END.

Here we are in got damn October and it’s 80 degrees and I was SICK AND TIRED of wearing summer clothes. Lawdamercy.

Then BOOM: it was real fall. Like fall fall. Like, “girl, you gotta throw on your Cabi sweater over that Zara summer dress because it’s chilly outchea” fall.

The same way we trade in our crisp summer dresses for cute coats and layers is the same energy we need to have with our skincare. Because if you think you’re going to use that mattifying moisturizer you used in the summer all through the colder months, gurl you are TRIPPIN’.

Yes, I understand you have oily skin—I do, too. But oily skin needs moisture, too. And even more when it gets colder out. Good thing is that there are so many moisturizer formulas out there for those of us with oily skin who live in places that get different seasons.

Now I’m saying moisturizer here a lot, but you also may have to evaluate the other items in your skincare routine. You might need to get a more hydrating cleanser, maybe you might need a brightening serum (as the weather gets colder, the skin’s natural renewal process tends to slow leaving dead cells on the surface which in turn make the skin look lackluster and dull), and you might want to lessen the usage of or cut out any product that dries your skin out. Thanks to today’s technology and advancements, there are plenty of moisturizers out there that give you the hydration you need with the super lightweight feel you desire. A few that come to mind include Olay Whips—they come in different versions depending on your skincare needs (even skin tone, moisture, texture, etc) with SPF versions for day and also fragrance-free versions I’ll be talking about soon, and Murad Hydro-Dynamic Ultimate Moisture. But there are so many of them out there—sometimes classified under bouncy moisturizers, gel moisturizers, or gel creams.

You may also want to check out your foundation formula and other makeup. That matte foundation that kept you shine-free in the summer could make you look casket-sharp come Halloween. As the weather cools, you may also want to find makeup formulas that are more hydrating on the skin–EVEN IF YOU HAVE OILY SKIN. Being too matte can dry out your skin and when your skin gets dehydrated, it can lead to issues like overproduction of oil, breakouts, dry patches, etc.

In the winter I tend to go easy on the setting powder and I break out some of the creamy makeup formulas I can’t wear when the weather is warmer.

So to get the FULL scoop on why you need to switch out your skincare and makeup as the weather changes (and note, you’ll need to do this again when winter hits as that’s a totally different beast as well), make sure you check out the posts below:
