Quick Review: Dior Forever Skin-Caring Foundation + Dior Forever Skin Glow on Dark Skin

Read ALL about my review process including how I take swatches, photos, and more here.

Since I LOVE the Dior Backstage Face and Body Foundation SO MUCH, I figured I’d give the brand’s latest foundation additions a whirl: Dior Forever 24h Wear High Perfection Skin-Caring Matte Foundation and Dior Forever Skin Glow 24h Wear Radiant Perfection Skin-Caring Foundation.

The sucka in me got reeled in with the “skin-caring” part…lol. So here’s my quick review on both along with quick video demos so you see how it looks on my skin.

Dior Forever 24h Wear High Perfection Skin-Caring Matte Foundation

Official description:

What it is: A medium-to-full-coverage foundation that remains flawless for up to 24 hours with a velvety-matte finish and SPF 35.

Coverage: Medium

Finish: Matte

Formulation: Liquid

Skin Type: Normal, Dry, Combination, and Oily

SPF: SPF 35

Highlighted Ingredients:
– Pansy Extract Hydration Booster: Helps protect the skin from drying, leaving it soothed, and looking smoother and more radiant.
– Rose Hip Extract: The star ingredient of Dior Forever, helps protect skin from external aggressors and reduce the appearance of pores.

What Else You Need to Know: Dior’s iconic Forever lasts up to 24 hours for skin that appears more even, with tighter-looking pores. This fluid foundation instantly enhances the appearance of the skin and supports its health day after day with a formula enriched in meticulously-selected skincare ingredients. It keeps the complexion comfortable and shields against exterior aggressors, including UVA and UVB rays with SPF 35 broad spectrum sunscreen.

If you’re wondering the difference between this and the Diorskin Forever Undercover, Undercover provides full coverage; Dior Forever provides medium to full. Undercover has a matte finish; Dior Forever has a velvet matte finish.

I have oily skin but it is winter now in NYC and it’s also MAD COLD. Like MAAAAAD COLD. Not that cute 50 degrees cold—it’s “girl, you better get your butt indoors” 7 and 18 degree cold WITH WIND CHILL FACTOR. It’s BRICK. So my skin isn’t as oily as it would normally be because of the cold so most matte or mattifying products suck all the hydration out of my skin and make it look and feel drier than this BRICK weather is making it.

I LOVE how the Dior Forever 24h Wear High Perfection Skin-Caring Matte Foundation has a nice velvet matte finish and maintained this beautiful finish all day despite it basically being the North Pole here. I posted a video going up on my Youtube channel with my full review of the Fenty Pro Fil’tr Soft Matte Foundation in new shade 445 and while I love the Fenty foundation, it’s better as a warm weather foundation for me unless I add a few drops of oil to it (I talk about that in the video as well, so make sure you check it out). I like that the Dior Forever 24h Wear High Perfection Skin-Caring Matte Foundation still allowed my skin to have a skin-like finish that wasn’t super matte and also didn’t break down and make me look like an oil slick all on its own without me needing to add anything to it.

I like a satin or velvety matte foundation finish—I do not like to be super matte (at least not now…lol) so this finish is beautiful for me.

SEE ALSO THE PROBLEM WITH MATTE FOUNDATIONS

I got shade 6.5N which is also my shade in the Dior Face & Body BUT it isn’t uncommon to wear a different shade in the same brand in different formulas because of things like water content in the formulas.

I LOVE this foundation and will be adding it in my foundation stash. While this range does have more shades than what Dior has had in the past, there still is WAY more room for more shades. The Dior Face and Body has more with 40 shades, this line has 28. But I will say, from what I’ve gathered from talking to a lot of you guys about foundations over time, so many people say they won’t budge from their staple foundations so I don’t know how much the additional shades would sell given that (albeit small) sampling.

FYI: the powder I’m using to set the foundation is the Diorskin Forever & Ever Invisible Loose Setting Powder. I talk about it in my 2018 Beauty Faves video.

Dior Forever Skin Glow 24h Wear Radiant Perfection Skin-Caring Foundation

Typically with oily skin like mine, trying a radiant/luminous/dewy finish foundation can be a whole mess (because in some cases even a velvet matte foundation is going to look dewy on me within a few hours anyway) BUT when it’s cold out and my skin isn’t as oily, I can usually get away with some of the more radiant formulas.

Getting a shade match in Dior Forever Skin Glow 24h Wear Radiant Perfection Skin-Caring Foundation is a bit tricky. I felt that 6N was a touch too light and 7N was a touch too dark—though I could work with either one once I highlighted and contoured. The finish on it is so beautiful and I was pleased to see I wasn’t a complete oil slick by the end of the day when testing it out. I do think this would be a different case when the weather warms up though. If you have normal or dry skin, I think this would be a nice formula to try if you can find a good shade match.

On the deeper end, all of the shades appear to be in neutral undertones (I haven’t seen them in person, just going by the shade description on Sephora’s site) so there’s a chance it could look off in undertone if you’re more on the warmer or cooler side. I do feel like some Dior foundations can tend to run a little red (again, I haven’t seen these in person so just speculating) so don’t automatically rule them out without trying it on first.
