If you’ve ever found that you’ve tried a ton of sunscreens and they irritate your skin, you might be allergic to chemical sunscreens. I’ve had a lot of people tell me over the years that they want to wear sunscreen, but can’t find one that doesn’t have adverse effects on their skin. But they didn’t realize physical or mineral sunscreens could be an option.
Problem though is that mineral sunscreens are notorious for being ASH CITY. Thankfully more brands are making more cosmetic physical sunscreens that better blend into deeper skin tones. I tried out a few more and came up with two to add to my ever-growing non-ashy sunscreen list.
Biossance Squalane + Zinc Sheer Mineral Sunscreen SPF 30 PA +++
This one takes a little longer to rub into the skin which is pretty common with these mineral sunscreens. But once you rub it in, it blends beautifully into the skin. It left a nice sheen on my skin that didn’t make me extra oily nor did it interfere with my makeup BUT I have only been inside because of quarantine.
It’s $30 at Sephora. You can buy it here!

Supergoop! Zincscreen 100% Mineral Lotion SPF 40 PA+++
This one is a bit harder to blend in than the Biossance and you may notice a slight tint at first, but it seems to blend in after a bit. This has more of a matte finish when compared to the Biossance, but it didn’t feel dry nor did it dry out my skin.
I would definitely lean towards the Biossance personally if I had to choose between the two, but I am more of a chemical sunscreen kind of girl anyway so neither would be my top choice. But I like to have options on both sides for you guys to look out for.
Supergoop! Zinc Screen is $42 at Sephora—you can snag it here.

It’s hard to know how mineral sunscreens will react to the different types of foundations you guys use until you actually try it. I didn’t have issues but that may be different for you. Be mindful that you may want to gently dab your foundation on with a makeup sponge as opposed to swiping up and down with a foundation brush so you don’t disturb the sunscreen. And also give it 15 minutes before starting with your makeup.
Another thing to note with mineral sunscreens is that because of the way they are formulated and “sit” on the skin, you may need to do a double cleanse to make sure you cleanse it off properly.
I tried out a few more sunscreens recently on my Youtube channel! Watch the video below to see more mineral sunscreens plus a demo of the Supergoop! Glowscreen sunscreen—it’s physical but a newer launch so I added it to the video.
Stay tuned and make sure you’re subscribed to this blog because I plan on exploring more mineral sunscreens—including some on the drugstore level.
Did you have your regular moisturizer underneath these?

thanks!!!
Hi Danielle! Can I put something over the Biossance to turn down the shine? I run more on the oily side but I’m looking for a mineral sunscreen that rubs in well so I don’t look Casperish. Would powder or mattifying spray work or would it compromise the sun protection?
Also, was it sticky or tacky? I saw reviews about how it felt on The face after application but wanted to see your opinion.

I don’t have it anymore, but I don’t recall if there was any stickiness. I feel like I would remember that if it was notable.

Hey Amber! I think if you allow the Biossance some time to “settle”, you’d be fine putting a powder on top of it. I think it’s when you mix things with the sunscreen is when it gets compromised. There are mineral sunscreen powders (Peter Thomas Roth and Derma E make some) that you can use as well. If you’re dealing with shine though, you might want to look more into the Korean sunscreens I tried in my youtube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=myFACqTOr2U
