The other day I did a live Q&A with Acne Expert Marie-Claire Cates and you can watch the replay here. But I wanted to share a trick I never knew about cystic acne that might be a total game changer for my skincare routine.
IT’S ICE.
ICE, ICE, BABY.
My period is coming and my body is going THROUGH IT. I’m eating up all the snacks and the pimples are taking up residence. Namely a HUGE flaming red cystic pimple that laid right on my nose. It wouldn’t listen to reason. It wouldn’t take bribes. It would not budge.
But Marie-Claire dropped a bomb of a tip.
She said to rub ice—not a cold jade roller, nothing fancy—just ice (I wrapped mine in a paper towel because I’m not about that life) and keep the ice moving—don’t let it just sit on the pimple. Do this 2-3 times a day and treat the pimple with benzoyl peroxide.
I don’t currently have any benzoyl peroxide in the house and since the cystic pimple was already about three days old at the time of me learning this information, it didn’t make sense for me to buy some. I usually use salicylic acid—my cystic acne doesn’t pop up as often as blackheads and whiteheads do–but I think I will pick up something with benzoyl now just to have in my arsenal.
Anyway, the icing did seem to help bring the pimple down some. I will definitely try this trick again when a newer cystic pimple pops up though since this one was already a few days old before I tried to the trick. Typically it can take a week or more for my cystic pimples to go away so if I can reduce that time with an ice cube—I WILL!
Now obviously this is a trick that can work on one or two cystic pimples. For more persistent acne, Acne Expert has a line of products that yield some very impressive results. Yes, I found this remedy on google a month or so ago. I had gotten 2 painful cystic acne spots from taking too much biotin. I had forgotten the affect biotin has in excess. I put the ice cube in a paper towel and set it on each spot for about 3-5 mins. One spot came to a head the next day, the other spot just went down slowly but a big difference the next day after applying the ice.
