Nowadays, everything is TOO DAMN HIGH. I went out to eat with a friend and paid $91 on rock shrimp, an order of fries, and two ginger beers (which I later saw were the same Fever Tree brand I get from Target for $5.99 for a 4-pack) and it reminded me exactly why I very rarely go out to eat. I could take that same $91 and buy enough groceries to create a whole dinner at home for me and three friends. And we wouldn’t have to wait for our table nor would be rushed out after.
But I do have selective cheapness because while I very much prefer to pay less, there are times I do not mind paying more. Here are five products that I don’t mind paying $$$ for.
Sunday Riley Good Genes All-In-One Lactic Acid Treatment $85-122
I’m probably on bottle 4 or 5 of this wonderful gentle exfoliating serum. What’s amazing about it is that you can see some results within minutes of first applying this, but obviously best results are seen over time with consistent use. You can grab it here.
Now while I don’t mind paying the $$$ for this, check out this video on my Instagram if you’re looking for something similar.
Peter Thomas Roth Water Drench Hyaluronic Cloud Cream $58
I LOVE water cream moisturizers! They feel extremely weightless on the skin yet hydrate really well—but some of them can seriously feel like you put absolutely nothing on, making your skin feel dry within hours. That’s why I love this one—I get the weightless feel with LASTING hydration. Get it here.
And when I need even more moisture, especially in cold and DRYYYY NYC winter, there’s also this version.
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic with 15% L-Ascorbic Acid Vitamin C Serum $182
Now this is wild because it’s $182. BUT, it does come with receipts aka science-backed research that it does what it claims. Vitamin C is an amazing ingredient because certain forms of it can help boost collagen production, protect the skin from environmental damage, and give the skin a radiance boost. But Vitamin C can also be notoriously unstable. This is why brands take tons of effort to make sure they use forms that can be stable and/or formulate with ingredients that keep it doing what it’s supposed to do. Get it here.
First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream $38
There are so many reasons why I can’t stand the winter, but the biggest one is how DRYYYY it makes my skin. I often turn to heavier, fragrance free products that are soothing for my dry ass skin. This is one that definitely helps to alleviate the desert conditions. Use it after a shower while skin is still a little damp for the best results. Get it here.
Olaplex No 3 Hair Perfector $30
My hairstylist Gabrielle Corney was the first to put me onto this. It’s a pre-shampoo treatment that helps to reduce breakage and split ends so the hair becomes stronger. I did have a bit of a learning curve when using it. Initially I used this EVERY time I shampooed. I learned down the line that was a little too much for my hair because overuse made my kinks feel hard. But now that I have figured out the proper tango to dance with this treatment, me and my hair are in love.
